Oh man. I just read novel spoilers, and all I have to say is adsl;gkj;lak and IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW. (Among other things, why I felt iffy re: Naru/Mai as a pairing, though actually now I ship it more than I did before, and oh jeez SO EVIL

XD lawl. I totally understand what you mean. I was watching the series while it was coming out and I was so confused at the end. There seemed to be something missing. Thus I looked it up and someone on lj put up a really nice post that explained all the novel stuff. :D I wish they had animated that stuff too though. T_T

Yeah, it's probably a bit too late now to be still holding out for an OVA or something. XD I guess I'll just be patient and wait for the manga (I think the next volume/beginning of the next arc is coming out here in August).

the essay illustrates the problem with people writing/filming "other" types of ethnicities/races, etc. They fall back so much on stereotypes that it's offensive. It perpetuates non-white people as a caricature as opposed to something that goes beyond the stereotype.

I'm actually really offended by the costuming now that I've seen it :-/

Yeah, I remember being really irritated about it, in kind of a I THOUGHT WE WERE IN ENGLAND/WIZARDING WORLD sense. But then I was always pretty bothered by Cho's portrayal in the books so...

Ah well.
