Anyway, during my brief venture into the Avatar fandom, I've come to realise that the fandom is divided by the two ULTIMATE PAIRINGS OF DOOM: Zuko/Katara and Aang/Katara. It's all people talk about. Actually,

it's true that people are arguing about that. In fact, they are in war defending their OTP. Although I'm one of the Zutaras, I have no offense for Kataang. I love Sokka too and unfortunately the only mate I approve for Sokka is Yue. But I have no offense too for other Sokka/girl pairings (I even not objecting Sokka/Aang)

(Rather than searching for fics, why not make it? It's more satisfying than reading other person's imagination =D )

I kinda understand how they feel. I'm pretty protective of my OTP (Shika/Tema) too. The difference is, I don't really argue with the other shippers. I just avoid the fics. Avatar fandom is kinda... vicious, when it comes to pairing wars. O_o Kinda scary.

But maybe that's just the fanaticals.

(Meeh, I don't write fics. I'm not confident enough in my writing abilities, and I really find it more fun to read than write.)

I think the safest way through any fandom is stay neutral. Although some of us are very protective, like you said, toward one or two OTP, we should not bashing others. They have their rights to love ships we hate and we have the right to hate the ship they love but fans should not use this reason to e.g. spamming fanfics the ships they hate. It makes me angry when irresponsible people hurting authors and artists' heart by commenting harsh things. I know this feeling because my HP OTP, Remus/Tonks, a canon, is often referred as 'contemptible' pairing by particularly Remus/Sirius shippers, while R/S, referred as an Out-Of-Canon ship by R/T shippers, is also my OTP. What an irony.

It's unhealthy to shipping like that. (I'm fully aware about my Zutara and the war that's going on Avatar fandom. Let's stay away from this, okay?)

(Wish I can rec you some hawt Sokka. Btw, Sokka here is translated as Sakka. I feel the name is sexier that way.XD )

Yes. Bashing is just ugly. I know a lot of mature people who get along just fine despite their opposing OTPs. They just agree to disagree.

Whenever I ship a pairing, I'm usually not that serious about it. I don't know why there are so many people in fandoms who are very into pairings.

I'm like that with shipping too. I'm open to all pairings. Hell, most of the time, a really good fic is enough to convert me into a fan of a pairing I never would have imagined myself liking!

(Soooo... as a Zutara fan, do you have any good fic recs that might convert me? ;D)

I have the sneaking suspicion that the instigators of shipping wars are immature twelve year olds. They are the target audience after all.
