Summary: Neville and Luna repair the greenhouses after the war. Written for pili204's prompt: a Gen Fic featuring Luna and Neville after the war.

It was only to be expected that the greenhouses would be completely smashed. They were on the grounds, in prime stomping position for the attacking giants, the first collateral damage in the Death Eaters' all-out attack on the school.

Neville had steeled himself for what he would find, but his heart still ached to see the pots in shards all over the ground, soil thrown haphazardly around, shattered glass crunching under his shoes as he stepped in. Not many of the plants had survived: the bouncing bulbs were scattered across the floor, stems snapped and flowers decapitated; several of Professor Sprout's prized honking daffodils drooped like strangled bodies while others had their petals strewn everywhere; the Flutterby bushes were dented and dismally still.

With a sigh, he cast a containment spell on the area, not wanting glass to fall on the repair team as they cleared up inside.

'We'll sort the mess on the ground first,' announced Professor Sprout, her steady voice belying the pain she must be feeling at seeing her greenhouses in this state. 'Banish the glass and other foreign debris. Once that's done, check on all the plants. Separate the dead ones -- we may need to salvage some of those for potion-making purposes; the live ones will need to be repotted so try to get the pots repaired as far as possible. I'll oversee Greenhouse Three; Neville can take care of things in here, and Hannah, Greenhouse One, please.'

Most of the helpers followed Professor Sprout and Hannah to the other greenhouses; a third of them stayed behind, awaiting his orders. Neville quickly gave his instructions and set to work himself, directing broken glass to one corner and soil to another.

Luna was part of the group that had remained in Greenhouse Two to help Neville, though he'd only noticed her out of the corner of his eye. She came up to him after fifteen minutes of work.

'It'll be all right, you know,' she said.

He smiled a little. 'Yes, we'll fix and rebuild everything. I still wish it hadn't all been destroyed, though.'

Luna's eyes twinkled at him. 'Oh, it's not all ruined.' She beckoned him towards a particularly messed up corner, where a lot of the greenhouse fixtures had caved in. By the looks of it, there would be a lot more work needed there and Neville had decided to rope that area off as a 'dead zone' to be approached later.

But Luna cleared a few wooden planks away, revealing a hollow spot underneath the fallen debris. The 'dead zone' must have fallen so perfectly as to create a protective cover for the plants beneath.

Just as Neville was marvelling over this, Luna reached in and drew out a potted plant -- miraculously intact, it was pulsing vigorously as Luna held it up.

'Look,' she said.

Probably startled by the suddenly movement from its secure cave, Neville's Mimbulus Mimbletonia sprayed Stinksap all over the two of them.

'See?' said Luna, smiling through the Stinksap. 'It's still alive and kicking.'

Neville wiped the thick fluid off his face and laughed. 'You're right,' he said. 'Thanks, Luna.'
