Notes: A belated birthday present for rougered, who asked for Luna and her father after the war. I'm afraid Mr Ollivander and Charlie managed to sneak in, but I figure you won't mind Charlie's presence!

War makes friends of survivors, thinks Luna, as she sits next to her father in the Weasley's crowded kitchen; it's full of people she barely knows, people whom she doubts would be here together had they not made it through the greatest battle they have ever seen in their lives. Daddy is shaking -- Luna thinks he hasn't stopped since Azkaban. She doesn't blame him. Even after she left Malfoy Manor, there were nights she felt she'd never be warm, even under Fleur Weasley's thick woolly blankets.

Luna holds her hand out and Daddy takes it, his cold, clammy palm tight around hers. The low murmur of voices float out from the hallway; and then Luna looks up to see Mr Ollivander enter the room.

Mr Ollivander looks considerably healthier, the effects of more rest and hearty meals finally starting to show. His eyes fall on her and a smile brightens his face.

'Luna, dear child,' he says. He is still limping as he crossed the room. The man sitting nearest to Luna -- the Weasley brother she hasn't met before -- pulls out a chair for him. 'You're safe.'

'It's good to see you, Mr Ollivander,' she says. 'Daddy, this is Mr Ollivander. I told you about him, remember?'

The fear hasn't left Daddy's eyes yet; he does not speak to Mr Ollivander, only glances timidly up and then back down at his knees. Mr Ollivander, fortunately, seems to understand, and does not push him.

'How is your wand, my dear?'

'It's wonderful,' says Luna. She draws it out of her pocket to show him. 'I'm afraid it's suffered a little, though.'

Mr Ollivander examines it. 'That is to be expected,' he says. 'You have done great things with it already.'

'Will you go back to the shop now, Mr Ollivander?'

He frowns. 'Not yet, I think. I would like to leave Britain for a while. A holiday, you understand.'

'Oh, where are you going to go?'

'I was hoping perhaps you would be able to advise me. '

The memory of soft, hopeful conversations in their dark, damp prison drifts in the space between them now. Think about where we will go when we leave this place. One day, we will visit magnificent places.

'Yes,' says Luna quietly. 'We can go to magnificent places now.'

'Romania,' says the Weasley brother now sitting beside Mr Ollivander. When they all turn to look at him, even Daddy, his ears turn the faintest of pinks. 'You were speaking of magnificent places, I mean. You should try Romania.'

Luna turns the idea over in her head. Mr Ollivander looks interested. But it is, surprisingly, Daddy who answers first.

'The Grungloops are native to Romania.'

The decision to go is as simple as that.

The Weasley brother, whose name turns out to be Charlie, arranges for them to stay at a dragon reserve. While Ukranian Ironbellies lack the mystique of the elusive Grungloops, they are magnificent all the same. Both Daddy and Mr Ollivander enjoy observing them; in the late morning, Luna flies with them to what they come to term their 'dragon-watching rock': a high cliff face with a jutting ledge. Getting there is dangerous, in a way, but this sort of risk - so unlike those they took during the war -- thrills Luna.

Sometimes they watch in companionable silence and Luna lets her mind drift with the beautiful beasts. What would it be like to ride one? It's a question she must ask Harry one day.

Increasingly, the men begin to talk. Mr Ollivander, first, inspired to reminisce about his younger exploits in wandmaking (Dragon heartstrings can be extracted without harming the dragon, you see, but it is a tricky process and one that requires the dragon to be conscious.)

It's fitting, Luna thinks, that when they were trapped in Malfoy Manor, she and Mr Ollivander talked about their future; now that they are in the future, free under the neverending Romanian sky, he tells her about his past.

Slowly, Luna's father begins to come out of his shell, too. He tells them more about Grungloops and their symbiotic relationship with dragons (They have the ability to survive the fires of a dragon's belly, you know.), and speculates excitedly that harnessing this ability could revolutionise wand-making.

Charlie Weasley arrives a week later, returning to his work at the reserve.

'So,' he says, 'was I right?'

Luna thinks of Mr Ollivander, his passion for his job rejuvenated; of Daddy, opening his eyes and seeking out the strange and exciting things in the world again. And then she thinks of the freedom of spreading wings and taking flight.

'I think I'd like to see more of Romania first,' she says contemplatively. 'But for a start, this is magnificent.'
