YAY! for NZ hockey teams!

I have no ability to weigh in on tablets. I own a cheapie my sister gave me which I love for sitting in front of the tv and looking up shit. (Usually about hockey.) But it would definitely not suffice for "computer" use. Though the battery life is pretty amazing even on it. So that may be the way to go.

:DDD Thank you!

That's really about all I'll need/want one for - very basic internet, twitter and email, and watching tv/movies that I've got files for, I think. But the battery life is such a huge selling point with them, i'm really intrigued.

Re: tablets: It's probably pricier than a lot of other options, but I legit love my iPad. I use it all the time at home (when I am lazy and don't want to sit up at real computer) and for traveling it's fantastic. It's gotten me through both cross-country and international flights, though I obviously wasn't using it constantly on the latter because that probably would have killed the battery.

Re: apps: I think Mint makes a good one? And you can set it up on your computer if that makes it easier to input all the starting info, and then sync to your phone. I used to use their computer version before smartphones were a Thing and always liked it. But then switched to spreadsheets because I'm lazy.

Yeah, I think I'm leaning to the iPad for similar reasons.

And I couldn't find a mint app at all in the app store? But I'm starting to wonder if they only work in the US, bc I tried to sign up and it made me have a US zip code. curious. but yeah, i just hate loading drive on my phone so spreadsheets that I can use in the moment are a bit annoying. :/ I will persist and see what I can find! ty for the ideas/comments, bb. <3

You know I love my iPad, and I think if you buy one in Australia you can avoid the tax? or something? And the battery life is pretty excellent, even on my 2 year old one. Having it be the primary computer thing for more than a weekend can get obnoxious, but typing on it isn't too difficult.

NO U!! Seriously, thank you for being a) an excellent guest and b) putting up with me when I was feverish and/or generally less fun to be around, at points. so I am super super glad you had a good time and you are most welcome back ANY TIME. also damn did we get the good weather, i swear it's been cloudy and/or rained every day since you left. Yeah, I'm gonna make Rae explain the tax back thing to me cos I know she's done it a bunch. I think I'm def leaning iPadwards for many reasons. And I think I'd only need it for watching movies/twitter/email, for the most part. I'd probably still take baby laptop for longer than weekend trips, I think. How do you get tv etc onto yours - do you load mp4s on somewhere, or what? (I can google this later, but having advice on how easy/userfriendly it is would be useful.)

I have an Asus Transformer T300f, which I LOVE and which has excellent battery life (my kids play games on it for a couple of hours). It has the detachable keyboard, which acts as a secondary battery. Asus seem to have replaced it with Windows8 tablets, but you can still get the TF300 or the TF700 (more robust casing, better screen resolution) if you search online dealers, or are happy with a mf refurbished one.

I would recommend Mint for the budgeting. I don't use it much anymore because I started doing this weird budget thing with my dad and also because I couldn't get it to recognize one of my banks, but prior to that I thought it was great.

re: tablets, I love my iPad though I can't get it to do a lot of the schoolworky things I bought it to do so maybe it is not actually great? i'm pretty sure if i just sucked it up and went to the genius bar they could teach me how to do it. I'm just afraid of the genius bar.

ETA: my computer fucking loves this icon. it always replaces the one that I pick with this one. what the eff!

I had heard many good things about mint, but I'm not sure it works with outside the USA people? I will poke at it a bit more later, but I'm wary since it made me have a US zip code to sign up :/

yeah, i think i'm coming down on the side of iPad for ease of use and finding accessories etc. also being afraid of the genius bar seems super reasonable to me, tbqh.

and awww and heee. in conclusion livejournal is a land of NO contrast???
