I'm definitely not procrastinating.

(I'm totally procrastinating right now.) ...and hey, oh look, apparently a keyboard short-cut exists on Dreamwidth that posts straight away, since I clearly just hit that by mistake and I have no idea how, lol. Whoops.

ANYHOW. It's accidentally been forever since I updated again, that got away from me a bit. Not sure how, I have been reading regularly! I have just been doing. Stuff. Lots of things. My trip to the US was most excellent, I got to see many people who I adore and also some teams and stuff (although, you know, I would've liked to NOT have to witness the Canes getting absolutely smoked by Anaheim siiiigh.)

A. came back to NZ with me, which was awesome (company on the long flight! Whoo!), so we got to do some bumming around the house and day drinking (flatmate still v v excited by his Christmas present blender), and then went down to Queenstown with B. to do some sight-seeing and wine tasting and general shenanigating. Still torn between whether my finest moment was getting to sing "secret tunnel" as we drove through a surprise tunnel on the way to Milford Sound or the part where we were hanging out in the bow of the boat going through the fjord and accurately describing our surrounds as "lots. squishy. green."

Work has been super busy, and I've been starting to get ready for local hockey season, too. It's so soon! Yet I am also somehow in denial that the regular season is over, because seriously, wtf? Playoffs. :| *crazyeyes*

In news of semi-related to the above but also kinda not, I wanted to also float a couple questions to you, o all-knowing flist of mine:

--while the baby laptop is amazing and wondrous and all, the sad truth of the matter is that it also has a fairly dismal battery life. For travelling - especially internal NZ travel but also international stuff - I feel like I might actually be better off being able to depend on a tablet instead of lugging a heavier laptop around in many situations. What would you recommend, or anti-rec, and why? (Aussie people, if you wouldn't mind weighing in on if you think it might be cheaper to get on in Australia as well that would be useful, bc I'll be in Sydney in two months, too.)

--does anyone have a rec for a budgeting app? I'd prefer something that's easy to use on my phone (android) rather than having to go to a website. I want to be a bit more consistent in tracking my expenditures at the moment, and excel is not quite cutting it. Also I'm lazy.

Once again, I have no graceful segue to an ending here, so, uh. Yes. Hi, internet? Please have smart thoughts and opinions at me! :D? <3

Our men's team won Bronze in their division of Worlds! Which, yeah, whatever, it would've been preferable to be able to advance to the next division, but a) medalling, fuck yeah, and b) their division is really tough, especially for a self-funded fully amateur team.

And, almost more importantly, our women's team DIDN'T GET RELEGATED!!! This was a real danger, and despite the fact they had a pretty good tournament - more narrow losses than blowouts - they needed to win their last game to stay up in IIA, AND THEY DID. Our goalies were fucking outstanding all tournament, too; Italy put NINETY SIX shots on us and our goalies stoped 91 of them. So fucking proud of them.
