The Libba Bray I've read was race-fail-y to the point I couldn't get through it. Also just not very good, but seriously problematic. So it's not just you finding fault with some aspect of her work is what I'm saying.

Oh, that's really really sad. :/ I will definitely approach with caution/only through the library if I see anymore of her stuff, then.
