Sherlock Holmes has always regarded language with something akin to wonderment. The idea that anything he says has probably never, ever been said before, that most of his sentences are completely original, that the possibility for invention and newness is literally at the tip of his tongue makes him decidedly not bored. John, there’s a case on, something about a speckled band and a dead sister - could be dangerous. Or, when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. Sherlock owns these words, owns them like he owns the clothes on his back. Chances are, no one is ever going to create those sentences, with those exact words in those exact word orders, ever again. They belong to Sherlock, forever.

And then there are some things about language that frustrate Sherlock to no end. Sherlock hates the paradox of how he can say something that doesn’t make any sense at all, but still makes sense. Colorless green ideas sleep furiously. He hates the redundancies of language, the common, ( ... )

“Could be dangerous,” Sherlock says, throwing the remark over his shoulder as he waits for his friend. What he means to say is, it could be dangerous, but you are absolutely not allowed to get hurt, because I need you like an addict needs his drugs. But all that comes out is “could be dangerous.” Sherlock hopes that the rest is obvious ( ... )

“Could be dangerous,” he whispers into the other man’s mouth. “Could be really, really, extraordinarily, ridiculously, maddeningly dangerous.”
There is so much beauty in all of this but especially in this line, I can't even begin to describe how much beauty there is :)

I could-be-dangerous you too.

Excuse me while I melt into a puddle of goo, would you?

This is gorgeous. I adore how John knows. I love that he's been studying Sherlock, interprets his crazy form of English, and doesn't call Sherlock out on it because that's what makes them Sherlock-and-John. Marvelous.

Could be dangerous, anon, could be very dangerous! I had to wait and come back to this story before I could comment coherently. I love it as a whole, and I love so many tiny things.

Colorless green ideas sleep furiously - his army doctor - I love you like I love explosions - He strips off his pyjamas en route to his bedroom, and dresses himself in fifteen seconds flat - I know ‘I need you for a case’ means ‘I need you, always, for everything.’ I know that ‘could be dangerous’ means ‘I love you,’ you git, and I could-be-dangerous you too.

Thank you for this literary artwork.

Oh, oh, oh, this is wonderful.

"I mean, you make me wish that I was more normal, that I could say things that you want to hear. Dreadful things, mundane things, like ‘you’re beautiful’ or, I don’t know, things they say on the telly."

That line. Guh. I went all gooey. ♥
