Tamora Pierce's Tortall universe

Sherlock has Beka Cooper's "Air Gift", and his Irregulars are the pigeons and dust spinners. He doesn't just help with cases at Lestrade's request-- he brings murder reports to the Yard as well, because he feels obligated to help the souls the pigeons carry.

(Bonus: he likes decorating with skulls in part because he is in service to the Black God.)
