It's on my mind alot. I call myself a Christian and believe in God. I haven't belonged to a church, however, since I was in my teens.
For various reasons, some very private. A big one is the change in our home church's doctrine when we received a new pastor and how my mother and her illness were treated in that atmosphere. It became very ugly. In addition my sister and I were treated strangely under the new regime in Youth Group.
My views have changed drastically since. But I've always come back to the fact that it's certain organizations of religions that I disagree with, not Christianity in itself. In recent years, I have felt a draw to rejoin a church, or at least give it a shot. To say I have many reservations is an understatement. I have read books and articles and wondered where I should try. The problem is many of the organizations seem to hold rules and beliefs I just can't get behind. I'm sure my views on homosexuality and equality for gays and women in general would not be popular. I know my politics probably aren't either. So many seem to equate being Christian with being Conservative, which I most decidedly am not.
