[Kage's sitting in one of the small library media rooms on one of the leather couches in there, watching a scene from a movie called Jacob's Ladder. There's a few empty bottles of beer by his feet and he's smoking, but very slowly. When the scene finishes, Kage lifts the remote, hits rewind, and watches it again.
The door is open.]

[He leans in the doorway, silently, seeing that it's a bit of a scary movie. So he decides, hey, he could proably sneak up on Kage, here! So he starts to creep up to the couch, and he's keeping an eye on the screen to wait for the scariest part to jump on his Bro, and then...]
[...he starts getting a bit into the scene, and then...]
...
...!!!
WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU WATCHING!?

...And Children of the Corn.
[He digs the hair ruffle. It's the brotherly sort of affection he never got, being an only and lonely child et all - and now it's really cool to have.]
[However, when Kage asks his question, Chase tenses.]
Uhhhh. A bit, yeah...?
Reply
[This makes Kage nervous, given his latest bout of paranoia.
What did Meifeng tell Chase?
Kage stubs his cigarette out on the ash tray carefully, slowly. Calm.]
... Why y'ain't come for training past few days? Y'avoidin' me, Chase?

[...thinking...]
[Chase looks around and scratches the back of his neck awkwardly, a terrible liar when it came to Kage's gaze boring a hole into his soul.]

[The question is flat, demanding.
Chase is pulling away from him, and normally Kage wouldn't care, but he likes Chase.
He can't help but take this personally.]

Idunno...?
[But he knows this isn't going to be a good enough answer, so he wracks his brain for something else to say. He can't quite come up with something that doesn't out him as the noble bastard he is.]
...Just 'cause?
Reply
[Kage sits back, but he doesn't say it with any sort of malice. He knows what Chase is like and he's trying to goad the answer out of him.]
Why.

[Then he slups his shoulders.]
Do I need a reason?
Reply
[He pauses with it.]
Thought we were friends. Only other friend just fucked off, didn't say why. Y'gonna fuck off, too, Chase?
Reply
[What the hell? To Chase, this was a bit left field.]
No--! I mean, yeah Bro, we're friends---
[But... but he could tell that this was really bugging Kage - which, for Chase, was so weird because it pertained to him. On some level, yeah, he didn't consider himself on the same tier as the guys that Kage hung out with. He wasn't in their league just yet. So this was a little...]
---Why would I fuck off?

The movie. The movie was makiing him this paranoid and Kage exhaled, pinching the bridge of his nose.]
Pan left, kid. Just left. Been my friend for--fuckin' long time.
[Didn't want to say how long.]
Didn't say a word t'me.

[He didn't really know what else to say on the matter, so he just... patted Kage on the shoulder some. Poor guy. Kage had a tough-ass job - Chase would know, he attempted subbing for the guy one time - and he worked for a crazy-ass captain, on a crazy-ass boat.]
[Kage wasn't a weak guy in any sense of the word, so whenever he worried about something or was unsettled by something, it just seemed... unnatural. But Chase figured that if anyone was allowed to be like that, it was the First Mate.]
[Pat pat.]

Part of him argued: he's going to be your hound, you can trust him.
Part of him argued: Chase is too young. Wait for a better candidate.
Part of him argued: It doesn't mean anything.
Kage agreed with them all, but he also ignored them all. Kage turned his head to regard the blonde, a smile cracking his bitter lips.]
Kid. What're y'doin'. Stop that. Kid. Don't. \
[He lunged, grabbing Chase's wrists. ]
No, Chase, don't--
[Time to play Don't Hit Yourself!]

[Chase blinked, initially REALLY quite alarmed - not knowing what the hell was going on - until Kage slapped him with his own hand.]
...!?

[Chase tried to fight back - and he noticed that he could fight back better than he could before, having being working out more - but he was still the little bro and thus was very much at the mercy of his tormenter.]
[However, this didn't stop him from still trying to get Kage in a headlock.]
C'mon---

Nothing came to mind.
Kage sat back and smiled, drank from his beer as an excuse.]
