Five bad choices for Movie Night on the Destiny

Alien

Most people had seen that one before, and Chloe had actually voted for it when it showed up as a choice on the Movie Night Poll. She loved movies with strong women characters, and Ripley had always been awesome in her eyes. Especially when she crawled into that loader robot and tossed cargo around with it. But this time - this time Chloe gagged when the baby alien burst out of the doomed crewmember’s chest. It was way too close to what she’d seen on the weird time travelling kino where she’d been offed by one of those toxic alien squids. Matt went after her, and then Eli left to check on her as well, and little by little the room emptied out, because when it came to aliens the Destiny crew had few fun experiences to draw from.

The Meaning of Life

Pretty much everybody made it through that monster, laughing and singing along. But the scene at the end with the big man eating absurd amounts of food, and the waiter enticing him into “one more wafer-thin mint” proved too much for Darren Becker, who struggled daily feeding a crew of 83 with nothing but purple sweet potatoes and protein slop, none of which anybody could stand anymore. He stood up quietly, slightly grey in the face and walked out, clutching his stomach. Eli turned the screen off and Lisa concurred that the ending sucked anyway. Everyone agreed.

Raising Arizona

They all enjoyed that one, until Young stole a glance at TJ and saw the tears running down her face. He took her hand and squeezed it, and when she turned to look at him he tilted his head towards the hatch. She nodded, and they left quietly. Of course everyone noticed, and everyone understood, and they all decided to stop the movie, because suddenly Nicholas Cage stealing a baby wasn’t funny at all anymore.

Cocktail

It was “80s Week”, and what better movie to show than the old Tom Cruise classic with lots of bad hair and shoulder pads? During the bar tender competition Brody got up and stomped out, muttering something about amateurs and having no idea about the REAL art of bartending because any idiot could learn how to pour it but making it, now THAT was where real talent lay. Rush concurred and left to work on the Bridge, and then Lisa, Chloe and Volker went after him so they wouldn’t feel guilty, and Greer left because he needed to help guide Lisa, and the rest of the crew pretty much fell asleep shortly after that.

Titanic

Varro was the only one who actually watched that movie, since he had no idea how it ended, and afterwards he spent an hour sobbing on Vanessa’s shoulder. He ended up staying the night and, well, one thing led to another, and they swore to each other to never ever stand on the tip of Destiny’s hull and yell about being on top of the world, because that would be nothing but asking for trouble.
