What I like most about the article is that Leonard is a complete afterthought.

I've never seen the Mary Tyler Moore Show so I can't say how accurate this is, but Amy's sounds right on.

Yes Amy is only good in very small doses, that is true, but she's still not funny enough or written well enough to be compared to the Sue Ann Niven character on MTM, and they are nothing alike at all. Sue Ann played a Martha Stewart type who had a segment on the WJM TV station called "The Happy Homemaker", and she was sexed crazed but she actually was scoring dudes. Betty White played this character.

To compare Sheldon to Rhoda and Phylis?!
The only comparison is Rhoda was definitely the shows most sarcastic and cutting with her remarks. Phylis too at times.

I got the vibe in the article that the writer was not that fond of AFF. The thing is the Sue Ann character was written and played to deliberately be the way she was(and it must have been fun for Betty White who more often played sweet more Rose-like women) AFF's character has been so all over the place since she started that its more like her character has multiple personalities. Yeah the article is nonesense, I just posted this here because the episode thread was getting too full and we were getting way off topic.

Gamma I loved that you posted the article. I had a strong cup of coffee and was on a tangent. I love having something BBT related to discuss here during summer hiatus.

It's utterly ridiculous. And it's the most offense thing I've ever seen; comparing TBBT to MTM show? MY GOODNESS. MTM show had some of the most smart, consistently funny characters ever written on a TV comedy. Ever!! The humor was way more sophisticated than TBBT ( ... )

Well Leonard did seem like an afterthought in that article, though I would go with yes- they should only be friends. The article did ignore the romantic relationships - except for H/B and I did like that aspect.

The only part that made sense was the Howard/Ted and Bernadette/Georgette comparisons. Those were spot on. And those were listed first, suggesting that that article was written to basically talk about those two while Sheldon, Leonard and Penny were afterthoughts.

Gamma you wanna get crazy? Kaley did an interview with FHM and says her character has "EVOLVED"! haha what?

http://tv.yahoo.com/news/kaley-weve-made-nerdy-sexy-big-bang-204500940.html

Although the initial allure of her character resided in her sex appeal, the 27-year-old actress says Penny has evolved as the seasons have progressed to become a more relatable character.

"Penny might have started out as some crazy sexpot, but it's not that way any more," Cuoco says. "She really is the girl-next-door, and I think that's why girls and guys have grown to love her character-she's lovable, not intimidating. She's an approachable character, not some unattainable woman, which is important. Everyone wants to be near this character."

Does she watch the show in reverse?

I think the tptb give the actors talking points for their interviews. Yeah I really don't understand how she can say that Penny is more relatable now- I think most of the characters are less relatable far more cartoonish now. Plus this season they really played up the dumb blond sexpot thing. How many times did we see Penny in a tight dress playing up her looks. If by relatable she means a character that the writers constantly make fun of and drag down- I'll buy that.

I sometimes get the feeling that Kaley isn't entirely happy with her character- at least as far as her career is concerned. In the article done with the cast at the end of this season(the one Johnny said that they don't have to spew the long science dialogue anymore) Kaley again mentioned that Penny shouldn't be working at the cheesecake factory anymore and wouldn't it be funny if she got a real acting job. I think the cast is very careful about what they say- just look at what happened to Angus T Jones from tahm.

Oh I agree. Lets be real, to Kaley, Jim and cast the show is an acting job. They are paid to play a character that is another person's vision. Coming up will be contract extensions if the show gets picked up again (it will) and nobody wants to rock the boat. They'll all live very well for the rest of their lives off of this show and the syndication.

Huh! I don't know why I bother going over to that other site. Bored I guess. I pray that next season, something shocking happens and they shenny the hell out of the show. I don't mean throw Sheldon and Penny in a relationship, I mean, give them more scenes than the others!!! Back to the shenny friendship. There's some bint over on that forum, now saying how icky shenny is. She's a Lenny. Urgh! Can you imagine? Being a girl and being attracted to Leonards character. I can't get my head round that curve. She even writes FF for them and saucy stuff. I think I may need to rinse my brain out and pretend I didn't see that.

I wish the show would do something to shake these people out of their smug complacency. Come on, if this show is going to be on for several more years I can't see how they can just keep on like they are now- I think many viewers will get bored.

Yeah I don't see the attraction to Leonard. The first couple of seasons he wasn't so bad- I could see how he could appeal to some people. But then came the insecurities, the whining, the mommy issues, and everything else. Just no.

I think that is more of my unattraction to Leonard than his physical appearance. He can be cute and endearing at times (two of my favorite Leonard lines are "Schooled!" and "Supercede!" when Priya was dissecting Sheldon's Roommate Agreement. Galecki is hilarious when he is trying to be all bad-ass.) But yeah, when Leonard is all desperate and an eager little puppy it is terrible.

Yes, it really isnt about the physical, its about the personality. And the really bad personality comes out most times in connection to Penny. When he was talking to Alex ealier this last season I could see how he could appeal to her- he was relaxed and funny. The problem is that we dont see that aspect very often.

The Writers Guild of America came out with the 101 top TV shows of all time- guess what show is not on the list. I don't agree with all of them but I think it is a pretty good list.

Wow the way the press is in the tank for this show and it did not make the list? IMO BBT would not have stood a chance going head to head with many of these shows. BBT could have been on it's way if it continued on with the earlier seasons quality.

Notice the Mary Tyler Moore show, the subject of the original article I posted, is number 6 on the list. I have been watching it on a local channel here, I have to say for a show that went off the air in '77 it holds up very well, a good indication of a well written show.

From the little I've seen of the show I could tell it was a very well written. I have to try to watch more . I was always a big Ted Knight fan :)
