The Agony and the Ecstasy Remix: Another Long Rant About Doctor Who, with a splash of Torchwood

Jul 12, 2009 12:04

I finished Doctor Who S1 through S4, so, naturally, MUST DISCUSS. I also started in on Torchwood S1 and have to talk a bit about that as well...

Overviewing w/ thoughts and spoilers all tossed together like mixed nuts... )

Wow, I wouldn't know where to start on replying to this post. However, I would say we are pretty much on the same page for most things, and feeling the same way whilst viewing it. I can't believe how fast you got through the series.

Torchwood S1 is not too bad, but I think if you can stick it out, S2 is MUCH MUCH MUCH better. It really finds itself as a show and figures out what genre it is trying to be.

I got through the series so fast because I have no life - lol - when I wasn't at work I was watching episode after episode - I have that couchy potatoy ability to just sit there.

Torchwood has actually gotten a lot better since that last episode I saw when I posted this - I actually rather like Tosh since the episode where she got the mind-reading necklace and when Suzie came back from the dead? Pretty damning good.

Heh, I have that ability too when I'm really into something, lol.

I'm happy to admit that Torchwood S1 is very hit and miss at times. Some brilliant fun stuff, and other stuff is very WTF. The characterisation is all over the place and the show doesn't really know what it is trying to be - it just ends up cracky. S2 is still cracky, but way more consistent and higher quality overall.

DONNA. Donna was by far my favourite companion ever. I just love, love, loved her. AND WILF. Awww, her Grandad was so cute. Sob. Have you watched Planet of the Dead yet? I thought it was kind of meh, but right now I'm just dying for any Ten action I can get before Christmas.

Torchwood S1 had a lot of... them whoring around... but it really does get better. The five episodes that aired last week were just... I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

As for the Master? I loved him... but he did make the Doctor look like a flipping house elf.

Admittedly, I didn't read this whole post because weirdly enough I've never watched even a moment of Dr. Who - BUT I've seen every single second of Torchwood. The show is continually improving. There are some seriously sad moments over Torchwood's 3 seasons so far, but also some great hilarious one-liners. I adore that show, but probably because that dude who plays Jack is HOT. Fuck!! Not to spoil anything, but if you like slash you will find some moments in Torchwood deeply satisfying. ;)

I super love the new Who series. Nine, Ten, DONNA, THE MASTER! Ah, so many, too many good times.

An awesome writer of Doctor/Master stories: versaphile. I haven't even got close to finishing Praxis, but the shorter stories really give me the fulfillment of Doctor and Master interaction.

Oh, oh, and in the ep where the Master dies, a super omnipotent (prolly the wrong word) Doctor has been a fear of the Master's for nearly ever, so when I found -that- out and watched the ep again, the Master flipping out and the Doctor forgiving him and the Master refusing to regen just to spite the Doctor, oh, my heart. The Master is really what makes me want to watch the original Life on Mars. John Simms is just too much!

Ok so I have never seen DW but I know tons of ppl on here who love it. I probably would too but I just can't afford to get into any more shows! Too little time! Hehe. Anyway, I nevertheless enjoy reading friend's squee-posts when they get involved in new fandoms. :)

I've got a lot of backtracking to do in your journal, btw! Did you get married yet? I will feel super bad if I didn't get to send my congrats/love/well wishes for the wedding!
