One Word Vowel Exercise.

Nov 17, 2008 10:57

I was thinking about this last night for no known reason.

rid - "reed"
rod - "road"
rad - "rod"
red - "red"
rud - "rude?"

Spanish vowels are so nice.

Though, the U has me tripped up a bit. Is the U often used? The only word I can think of with a u is "guardar" where it says a "w" sound.

Yeah, I'm sort of an idiot. Yay for thinking about things in my sleep. Joshua pointed out "tu" and "su" and there's also "usted". *hangs head in shame*

Good news is, I found my missing DPN. Woo!

You're right, and I'm an idiot. "Rude" is as close as I could get, then, though in my head the actual sound sounds shorter (if that makes sense).

You can tell I was thinking about this in my sleep. O.o

“Rude” is a very good example of the sound (/u/, unless I’m mistaken). So are “school”, “nude”, “fruit”, and the u in “super”.

The /u/ in Spanish sounds shorter (to me) than the /u/ in rude. But close.

Yes, but all those words say /w/ instead of /u/ because of the /g/ and /j/. (Joshua provided some nice examples, as did Jeremie).

The first thing to pop into my head was "Busco un palabara que usa la u."
I think the grammar might be terrible, but it made me giggle.
