I had a pair of roommates at one point that refused to do the dishes - It eventually got so bad they had to leave.

When I helped them move out of the apartment they moved to, I offered to pack up the kitchen. Turns out that every time they heard the landlord was coming over, they'd stack the dirty dishes in a cupboard. ALL the cupboards were crammed full of dirty dishes - They would just go to Goodwill and buy more dishes when they needed some....

I know it's venting, but it's kinda reassuring to see you snarling about dirty dishes - it tells me "hah, it's not just me who finds that super irritating!" My current non-R housemates are reasonably nice folks, but there are too many days when their cleaning habits (lack of), especially regarding the kitchen, drive me up the fucking wall.

Oh, no seriously. My experience in a long run of shared houses and one long term relationship is that the stuff that stresses the system really continuously are dishes, laundry if shared, and other kitchen/bathroom cleaning stuff.
