The moment Kento saw that it was Kitayama and Takashi at the door, he rushed Takashi in taking off his shoes and before Takashi could even greet properly Taisuke who had opened the door, Kento had dragged him away.
Taisuke could only laugh in amusement and looked at Kitayama. "Do you know about their little secret?"
Kitayama just smiled. "Who knows?" He handed Taisuke a gift bag. "Happy birthday."
Beaming, Taisuke took the present. "Thank you! I told you you didn't have to get me anything though..."
"Well, it didn't feel right not to get you anything though. Just accept it."
Taisuke laughed and said, "Well, that I will. Come on in! I'll introduce you to some of my friends."
They headed towards the living room where a few people were already gathered. Taisuke introduced Kitayama to his friends and since they were still waiting for a few more people before actually starting the party, they just talked while nibbling on some snacks.
A little while later though, Kento and Takashi walked into the living room, carrying a box together.
Taisuke blinked, tilting his head. "What is that, Kento, Takashi-kun?"
"We want you to open this now!" Kento exclaimed, handing Taisuke the box. The cover and the body of the box was wrapped separately and rather messily with wrapping paper and on the cover was a big ribbon.
"Is this your present for me then?" Taisuke asked with a smile. Kento nodded quickly while Takashi looked shy before nodding himself. With another laugh, Taisuke reached out and petted Kento, then Takashi on the head. It seemed like it was why they have been so secretive lately. "Thank you." He gave an apologetic look to his friends, but they were all smiling understandingly.
"Ah, wait!" Kento said and quickly gave Taisuke something. "Card first! Happy Birthday!" Takashi quickly repeated as well.
"Okay, okay." Taisuke looked down to find a card with a bunch of drawings on the front. He could recognize Kento's drawing style and figured part of it was drawn by Takashi then. It seemed like it was supposed to him holding hands with the two small boys. He then opened the card and smiled softly at the message inside. "Did you practise your hiragana writing a lot?"
Kento nodded. "Un, un, I did!"
"...yea," Takashi mumbled, perhaps too embarrassed about admitting that he needed practice.
"Open the box now!" Kento said.
Nodding, Taisuke opened the box slowly. "Whoa, there are a lot of things in here!" In fact, the box was pretty much filled to the brim.
"We wanted to give you many things," Kento said. "We couldn't decide on just one!"
"Let me see what there is then..." Taisuke said, taking out items from the box one by one. There were a whole bunch of origami, more pictures, some pretty-looking stones, and last but not least, a bunch of paper loops strung together. "Mh?" Taisuke tilted his head as he took it out.
Kento made a sound and took the box away to climb on to Taisuke's lap. "Let me put it on you! A special necklace for Taisuke!" He took the paper necklace and helped Taisuke wear it around his neck. He then beamed at Taisuke.
Taisuke laughed and said, "Thank you, Kento." He gave the boy a hug before looking at Takashi. "Thank you too, Takashi-kun." He held out his other arm. Takashi took a moment before going over and joined the group hug, wrapping his small hands around Taisuke's neck.
Kissing the two boys on the cheek, Taisuke said, "Thank you for the presents. I love them. I'll use them to decorate my room."
Kento looked up at Taisuke. "Is this your best birthday then?"
Taisuke smiled brightly. "Of course! It's the best birthday ever!"
Kento and Takashi shared a happy look at that. "Yay~" Kento snuggled against Taisuke.
Takashi tugged on Taisuke's arm. "Do we get to eat yet? Or play?"
Blinking, Taisuke then laughed, "Alright, let's play a game that you two can play too. We still have to wait for a few more people to come, then we can eat. You can have a cookie first though." Once he said that, both Kento and Takashi scrambled down to grab a cookie.
"You really do start looking like a young father," one of Taisuke's friends commented.
Taisuke laughed and said, "I'll take that as a compliment~" He got up to go after the boys and to find a game that everyone could play.
Later that night, when Taisuke collapsed on to his bed, barely registering Kento crawling into his arms, he thought what a wonderful birthday he had and he hoped that next year, it would be just as good, or even better.
Author's Note: My Internet died while I was writing this, so that caused some delay...and then I forgot how I wanted to end this ficlet! o/ That was very smart of me. I managed somehow, but it still doesn't feel like the best? Tried my best to recall, but failed. Countdown is really coming to an end! I'm glad that people are enjoying my little project and I enjoyed writing the ficlets as well~ The project was really an excuse to give myself motivation to write again since I haven't been doing so a lot this year. =3
Comments are love and appreciated~
