Of (Prolonged) Sleepover and Stupid Siwon

“A what?”
Changmin looked as if he wanted to guffaw or just laughed out loud really, but he couldn’t because they were in the library so Kyuhyun just scoffed at his bestfriend. “A sleepover. You know, me staying at your apartment, we’ll study together. Exam is coming up Min, we need to prepare for that.”
Changmin, that smartass with a 149 IQ Changmin, let out a cough that sounded suspiciously like a snort. “A sleepover? Really?”
“Never mind,” Kyuhyun said in irritated tone. He went back to study his Business Management textbook but not really reading it. Actually he already memorized almost everything in the book so this study-together-session was a mute point, really.
“It’s called staying over Kyu, not a sleepover. I mean, we’re not high school and we’re certainly not girls.”
“Oh,” Kyuhyun looked up from his book. “Staying over, sleepover, whatever. So are we doing that or not? Or are you planning something with Junsu tonight?”
Changmin cleared his throat and this time, he was the one who looked downwards at his own book. Something like a suspiciousness trickled inside Kyuhyun. This was not like Changmin and Junsu at all. Usually Changmin, that sex addict but never admitted it Changmin, would say right to Kyuhyun’s face that: yeah, he’s interrupting their sex session so Kyuhyun should just shut up his pathetic lonely self and get the hell away like freaking now.
“Min?”
“Hmm?” Changmin pretended to be busy and in Kyuhyun’s opinion that’s a really bad acting, “So you want to stay at my place tonight? I’m okay with that. But why?”
“Weren’t you listening to a thing I said earlier? I said we should prepare, exam is coming up.”
Changmin raised an eyebrow and gave him that look, you know when the opposite person thought that you’re really stupid? Yeah, Changmin nailed down that look to the core. He owned the look. He invented the look.
And of course Kyuhyun relented first at the end. “Okay fine. Siwon is on business trip in China, for that stupid coffee shop of his.”
He went back to disinterestedlyflip his textbook while in fact there was nothing more he could learn from it. And the studying together at Changmin’s place was just an excuse okay, he admitted it. It’s just that… the apartment was so lonely and stupid Siwon had been going on that trip for two weeks, two fucking weeks and Kyuhyun knew he’d die of boredom if he just stayed there for one more night, especially if he was not doing anything to distract his mind.
“So…. Basically you want to stay at my place because you’re lonely?”
“We should just order a take out.”
“Hmm.”
Kyuhyun tried very hard not to sigh, again. “Take out it is. What do you want? Pizza? Chinese? Indian?”
“Chindian.”
“What?”
Changmin looked up from watching his fishes swim in saltwater aquarium (finally!) and Kyuhyun almost felt sad because Changmin was moping and he hated a moping Changmin. A moping Changmin was not good, a moping Changmin would cast a dark cloud all over the apartment. “I said Indian.”
“…..you said Chindian.”
“No I didn’t, your hearing is impaired.”
Kyuhyun rolled his eyes. Okay so Changmin didn’t want to talk what happened but Kyuhyun already got the gist of what really happened. There was only one thing that can make Changmin this mope-y and it always always always involved one Kim Junsu, whom speaking of which, Kyuhyun hadn’t seen in few days now. Usually those two were attached at the hip, quite literally. So Kyuhyun stood up and ordered both Chinese and Indian for their dinner.
Three minutes later, he was done ordering the takeouts(enough food to last them three days actually, but this was Changmin and he ate everything while Kyuhyun just… followed his footsteps). Both the Chinese and Indian restaurants assured him that they would be there in twenty minutes, otherwise free of charge.
Changmin was sitting cross-legged on the floor, still staring at his saltwater aquarium and hugged a pillow when Kyuhyun walked back. He nudged Changmin’s outstretched foot. “Hey, food will be here in twenty. I need your card.” Yes Kyuhyun was a cheapskate, but he would never admit it.
“Maybe I should get a dolphin as a pet.”
“A what?”
Changmin buried his face in the pillow, looking very much like a kicked puppy and Kyuhyun’s brain whirled. Changmin was his best friend and anything that bothered Changmin would bother him too. They had similar interests and would do anything for each other. Except when it came to gaming. And food. And Siwon.
……..Well……
Actually Siwon could be bartered with more food, so yeah, maybe Siwon wasn’t an exception after all. His best friend let out something that sounded suspiciously like a whine and something clicked inside his mind. Wait. Today was December 14th and as such, tomorrow would be the 15th.
“Changmin, tomorrow is Junsu’s birthday right?”
Changmin mumbled something unintelligently.
Kyuhyun nudged the outstretched food again, “Well? His birthday is on December 15th right?” When Changmin didn’t give proper response, Kyuhyun crouched besides his friend and snatched the pillow away. The pillow left prints on Changmin’s face and it made him look ridiculous, but still he glared at Kyuhyun.
“It is,” Changmin said.
“So why are you here all alone? Where is he?”
“He’s not here.”
“I can see that,” Kyuhyun seethed.
Right at that time, the doorbell rang. Cursing under his breath, Kyuhyun walked towards the door after grabbing Changmin’s card. Really, he’s the one that needed comfort so to speak, since stupid Siwon was in stupid China on stupid business trip. Somehow now he was the one who give comfort to others.
But then again, Kyuhyun pondered as he signed Changmin’s card, Changmin was his best friend. And he and Junsu were perfect for each other. They argue a lot, but always in playful argument, and somehow neither of them got mad because of it. They screamed at each other and fifteen minutes later Kyuhyun caught them making out in the lecture hall (oh god the memories). All in all, they were perfect together, and for each other.
And now Changmin was being an idiot.
Kyuhyun walked back to where Changmin was, numerous bags of food in his hand. He took out few boxes and handed some of them to Changmin, not really caring that fish curry and lo mien might not be the best combination in the world. “Why do you guys always have a fight in Christmas time?”
“Because Christmas is a season to forgive each other?”
Kyuhyun sighed. This was going to be a very long night.
Somewhere between chocolate heaven, wine and cheese buffet in his dream, there was a constant annoying sound. Kyuhyun was in the middle of tasting a glass of1978 Bordeaux when he finally realized that the annoying sound came from his real life and it was actually his phone.
“Guixian! Guixian!”
“ajsdkfas;jkmi,” Kyuhyun answered into his phone.
“What?” the voice from the other line sounded so far away.
“lksa;djflkasjtw,” Kyuhyun said again and ended the call. Thirty seconds later he was back in the dreamland, 1978 Bordeaux in his hand and mountain of chocolates and various cheese on his plate.
When the sun was high (actually it was very high), Kyuhyun was finally awake. He rubbed his eyes tiredly as his brain removed all the sleepiness inside. Last night was a disaster. Changmin moped constantly and it took Kyuhyun four bottles of wine before Changmin was slightly tipsy and began to spill the beans.
Apparently Junsu was asking Changmin on a trip together for his coming up birthday but Changmin couldn’t make it. He said that he had too many things to do, with the Christmas coming up and the final exam and his mother was on his back again, setting up Changmin with different girls.
After much pointers and nudges and blackmails, Kyuhyun gathered that Changmin’s mother had purposely set him up with one of the girls on the same day with Junsu’s birthday. As always, the topic of Changmin’s parents was a touchy point for Junsu and before long Junsu was saying that Changmin was a selfish bastard and Changmin was leaving the apartment to get away and by the time he was back, Junsu was nowhere to be found.
“Have you called him?” Kyuhyun asked.
“He switches off his phone,” Changmin was near tears.
“You’re an idiot.”
Changmin finally fell asleep sometime in the night and that allowed Kyuhyun to sleep as well and he had nice dream about chocolates and cheese and wine. Kyuhyun frowned. Was he dreaming or did he really receive a phone call?
He was just about to grab his phone to check when somebody was yelling his name.
“Kyuhyun!” A blur past by and he was being hugged to death by Junsu. Oh. So Junsu was back. Wait. When did he come back? Did something happen while Kyuhyun was having a really nice dream because he didn’t hear Junsu came in or even when the door was opened. If Junsu was here then it meant Changmin was a happy Changmin already. Speaking of which, where the hell was Changmin?
Speak of the devil, he saw his best friend’s tall form came through the door, a wide smile on his face. “Su, let him go.” He released Junsu’s fingers on Kyuhyun one by one and finally Kyuhyun could breathe again. Changmin now had his arms around his boyfriend. “Want to get some breakfast?”
Junsu nodded and replied, “There’s a really nice Japanese restaurant two blocks away. Want to get some lunch?”
Lunch? What time was it now? Kyuhyun looked at the digital clock on the wall and did a double take. Whoa, it was almost three in the afternoon so that meant he had been sleeping for almost twelve hours. And today was December 15th which meant, today was Junsu’s birthday.
“Happy birthday!”Kyuhyun exclaimed.
Junsu’s face was split with a blinding smile. “Thanks!”
“So…. Because today is your birthday, lunch is your treat right?”
Hey, once a cheapskate, Kyuhyun would always be a cheapskate. And who said there’s nothing such as free lunch? Those who said that just hadn’t known whom to exploit, unlike Kyuhyun.
Lunch was nice. They visited the Japanese restaurant and Kyuhyun was in food heaven. He always loved Japanese food, there were so many things to eat! Sushi, bento, tempura, ramen, udon, to name a few. And of course he had all of them. Changmin ordered few bottles of sake (that bastard) and Kyuhyun took advantage of it to order few for his own. He was almost sure he heard Junsu muttered about how many foods the two could eat but Kyuhyun didn’t let it bother his enjoyment.
He didn’t really know the details of how Junsu and Changmin made up, but the most important thing now was that they were not fighting anymore. Kyuhyun hated it when they were fighting. The last time they were fighting was on Christmas last year, when he was just started to work at Siwon’s coffee shop after that stupid man kissed him.
“Why are you guys always fighting on Christmas?”
“Because Christmas is a season to forgive each other?”
Kyuhyun had very nearly thrown up all over his very-delicious-half-eaten bento box. Changmin was always such a sap when it came to Junsu, the difference was unbelievable compared to the usual snarky Changmin.
After saying thanks to the birthday guy one more time, Kyuhyun went back to his own apartment, leaving Changmin and Junsu to have hot makeup sex. He was three blocks away from Siwon’s apartment when he remembered to check his phone about that phone call earlier.
Yup, he really had a phone call (so it wasn’t a dream after all) and it was from Zhou Mi. But Zhou Mi also sent him a text message with picture embedded on it.
Guixian,
SOS! SOS! SOS!
I know you’re barely awake when I called you so I’ll just send you this.
Love,
Zhou Mi
Frowning, Kyuhyun tapped on the picture. Zhou Mi sounded urgent and he wondered what might set his Chinese friend in such panic. And then Kyuhyun felt his body went cold. He stared at the phone. And stared again. And almost immediately wished he was still dreaming.
On the photo there were Siwon and a very pretty girl shopping in jewelry shop. The girl was inspecting a ring and Siwon was beaming happily with that stupid dimple smile on his face.
Three days later, Kyuhyun was still sulking in Changmin’s penthouse. After he received that hideous hideous picture, he had immediately packed his bags (after throwing Siwon’s clothes out of their wardrobe) and went back to Changmin’s place. He had interrupted the makeup sex but one look at his face made Changmin and Junsu stopped their impending sex and ushered Kyuhyun in. He wasn’t sure if he was crying or not but there was a fat chance that he was.
Kyuhyun hadn’t come out from the penthouse since then. Lying on the guestroom’s bed seemed a much brighter option rather than going out and go to the university. He didn’t care that final exam was coming up and be damn with his grades.
Changmin tried to cheer him up with new online games yesterday. Kyuhyun tried to play it but when his warrior character was destroyed by the enemy’s peon, he very nearly slammed his (Changmin’s) controller. A peon! A peon succeeded defeating his warrior! Do you know how embarrassing that was?
Of course Junsu, who was watching the game, laughed his ass off and somehow Kyuhyun felt a tiny bit better after that. Junsu’s laugh was contagious. His unique laugh and bright smile was enough to make anyone smile and Kyuhyun was no exception.
Plus with him imposing in Changmin’s penthouse, there was free food everywhere. And what’s better in this world rather than free food?
Kyuhyun snuggled further in the queen sized bed. Boxes of takeout pizza and ice cream littered all over the floor but he figured he could do the cleaning later. Changmin and Junsu had been so kind, allowing him to impose on them like this so the least Kyuhyun could do was making sure he kept the guestroom tidy.
After all he didn’t know how long he needed to stay here before he could go back to his own apartment. He decided to rent his own apartment when Siwon asked him to move in. And now look at the result. Kyuhyun was now a homeless man, without food and roof on his head.
All this was because of stupid Siwon. That idiot idiot man had betrayed Kyuhyun’s trust and okay, Kyuhyun knew he wasn’t the best boyfriend in the world but somehow the truth hurt. Deep down there was always that instinct, that feeling, that hope that perhaps Siwon was really serious with him. Maybe he loved Kyuhyun just like Kyuhyun loved him.
Or maybe not.
Maybe Siwon didn’t love him at all. Maybe all of it was just Kyuhyun’s imagination, he wasn’t serious with him after all.
Kyuhyun bit his lip. Somehow the thought hurt him more than he thought it would.
Someone shook him awake. Frowning, Kyuhyun tried to hit whoever that woke him and he succeeded. “Ow!” said someone.
Kyuhyun smirked in his sleep. Served his/her right for waking him. There was nothing he hated more than having to wake up before he is willing to wake up. Even Siwon had learnt not to do that the first morning they slept on the same bed.
And then Kyuhyun frowned. Siwon the stupid Siwon. Stupid Siwon who pretended to be Kyuhyun’s boyfriend for almost a year. Stupid Siwon who was really really good at acting fake adoration. Stupid Siwon who cheated on Kyuhyun and thought that he could get away with it. Well then. Then Stupid Siwon was clearly mistaken. There was no way Kyuhyun would let Stupid Siwon treated him like this. No fucking way in hell and back again.
“Well then you ungrateful bastard, I’ll eat all the pancakes and waffles from Petite Abeille and you’re lucky if you can find eat even a box of Fruit Loops for breakfast this morning.”
Kyuhyun’s eyes snapped open. Standing next to the bed was a scowling Changmin who was nursing his nose.
Oops.
“Are you okay? Sorry, I didn’t mean that.”
A glare from Changmin was his answer.
“………………you mentioned breakfast?”
The glare deepened.
“Please don’t take the pancakes and waffles. You know Petite Abeille have the best pancakes and waffles and you know I love them to death please don’t take the pancakes and waffles please?” When Changmin didn’t answer, Kyuhyun added in pleading tone, “I’ll do anything you want.”
Changmin immediately brightened. “I’m glad you say that Kyu, because Siwon is here and he wants to talk to you.”
It was horrible, devastatingly awful fact that when Kyuhyun finally saw Siwon, his appetite and spirit and mood immediately evaporated. Even the warm delicious smell of Petite Abeille pancakes and waffles couldn’t cheer him up. Damn it where was Junsu when Kyuhyun needed him?
Kyuhyun massacred his pancakes with his knife and fork. He saw Siwon (who was seated opposite him) flinched every time he stabbed the food and Kyuhyun felt immense satisfaction seeing Siwon’s reaction. And to think that Stupid Siwon thought he could cheat on Kyuhyun and get away with it. Ha!
He heard Siwon cleared up his throat awkwardly. “So, how are you Kyu?”
“Dandy,” Kyuhyun answered sarcastically.
From the corner of his eyes, he saw Siwon visibly wilted. Somehow that made Kyuhyun scowled even more because for one second he felt bad seeing Siwon all dejected like that. And immediately after that Kyuhyun realized that he was supposed to make Siwon felt bad so why was he the one who felt bad?
Then Siwon reached into his pocket and slid a purple velvet box across the table. “I bought this for you.”
Kyuhyun eyed the box suspiciously. What was in that? It was a small box so maybe it was a receipt of a new PS4 that was just released last week. Or maybe a full year pass to an all you can eat buffet? What about Peter Luger’s steakhouse credit card? It’d better not be a one year membership to yoga class like when Siwon once suggested Kyuhyun to take a yoga class just after their really awesome and satisfying bondage sex.
Damn it. Just remembering that made Kyuhyun felt aroused. He then decided to focus on the box. Picking it up, he opened it with a scowl and much more force than necessary. And then his mouth fell open.
Inside was a beautiful pair of platinum band, with their names engraved inside and one small purple diamond stones on each ring.
Oh.
So when Stupid Siwon visited that jewelry shop with that ugly girl, he wasn’t really cheating on Kyuhyun. He was choosing a ring for them both. For Kyuhyun and for Siwon, an identical pair of rings (except for the sizes because damn him for having such long thin fingers while Siwon had, well, normal manly fingers).
And to think that he thought Siwon was cheating on him. It was a very stupid notion. Siwon loved him, he must be, otherwise why would he choose a pair of identical rings for them?
Kyuhyun looked up to see Siwon smiled sheepishly. The man gave him a dimpled smile and said, “You know, since we’ve been dating for a year…”
“355 days,” Kyuhyun cut short.
Siwon looked at him like he was the most precious thing in the world, and Kyuhyun (almost) felt embarrassed because of that. What the hell? It’s not like it’s the first time Siwon ever looked at him that way, because really, that’s how he always looked at Kyuhyun all the time. The fact that Kyuhyun always secretly loved that look remained as an embarrassing secret in his heart.
“What?” he barked.
“You’re counting the days,” Siwon cooed.
Oh.
Well, okay. Kyuhyun coughed once and pretended to look at the ring. “So… this is because our anniversary?” He picked up one of the rings.
Siwon brightened visibly. “Yeah. I thought that with every year pass we can add the diamonds around the rings, one for each year. You know, just for the sake of something to remember.”
Kyuhyun bit his lip. So Siwon actually wanted to be with him for really long time, even years and how dare Kyuhyun still doubt the man? This was all Zhou Mi’s fault. If he didn’t send that stupid picture then Kyuhyun wouldn’t have the wrong impression and wouldn’t spend four days imposing at Changmin’s place.
Zhou Mi would be so dead the next time Kyuhyun saw him.
“So do you like it?” Siwon asked.
The student looked up at the man he secretly loved and nodded. The smile that Siwon gave him next was one of those smiles that Kyuhyun knew he would never forget for the rest of his life. It made his own heart felt like bursting from too much happiness. And just like that, everything fell into place again.
“Wipe that stupid grin off your face.”
“Wow someone is in bad mood today. What’s wrong? Didn’t get enough sex from Siwon?”
Kyuhyun threw some of his salad (he hated vegetables anyway so this was a win-win action both for him and the salad) to the smug-ass face of his best friend. He left Changmin’s place immediately after eating the decapitated pancakes and went back to Siwon’s place. Of course he had sex afterwards and how dare Changmin presume otherwise?
He felt better hearing Changmin cursed out loud because some of Kyuhyun’s salad left nasty trails on his ridiculously expensive black cashmere sweater. Kyuhyun smirked. He reached for his croissant, and almost immediately stopped for a second. Kyuhyun felt his heart warmed at the sight.
Something glinted on his finger, reflecting the bright sunlight outside.
