It doesn't occur to him until a few months later to check back in on Chuck's old life. It's been awhile since he's done this - he'd forgotten that people pay more attention to where you've gone, these days. Back in the day, nomadism was the way to go, which inherently meant nobody would notice when you'd gone.

Even with Chuck being as reclusive as he was, there were still bound to be people who would notice his absence.

He walks down the street in Chuck's form, in clothes that both disguise his appearance and make him all but invisible. Average.

There's a sign post stuck into the lawn by the mailbox, advertising a local real estate agent who would be willing to sell you the house, provided you call the number listed and be willing to complete all repairs on your own. Looking up at the state of the house, he can understand why the asking price was so low.

He walks inside, inspects the thin layers of dust, and double-checks all the nooks and crannies of the place. Makes sure that everything that's supposed to have been found has been, that things that should stay hidden are, and that he hadn't forgotten anything when he left.

There's a fistful of pages stuffed in a crack in the floorboards, in what Chuck had called his writing room once upon a time. He pulls them out, rereads, and sighs nostalgically. It's the "what would have been" he'd written the night Lucifer rose. Between that episode and the post-Croatoan camp, Dean's done quite a bit of future altering in his time. Now he's just enjoying the promise of a future as best he can. Which isn't that well, but who can blame him, really?

Rubbing his thumb against the side of the pages, he considers. What to do, what to do...

When the idea occurs to him, he grins and vanishes, leaving no sign of his being in the house at all.

An auction pops up on an eBay knock-off website the next day, for an exclusive copy of an unprinted, non-canon novel in Carver Edlund's Supernatural series. The fans find out and go crazy, Sera finds out and goes crazier, and when it's all said and done a Scandinavian fan of the books is momentarily satisfied, and a fairly large amount of money has been placed in Dean Winchester's first actual bank account.
