Goodbye, Marvel Comics

Apr 19, 2017 23:08

Took a momentous (well, not in the grand scheme of things, but you know what I mean) decision today and decided to kick my X-Men comics habit to the kerb for good.

Reasons why behind cut.

After the whole CA thing, I think paper Marvel is just desperate for attention with the MCU overshadowing everything.

Yeah, I really don't know what they thought they were doing with that Captain America story. It's like kicking your own history in the face.

And if they'll do that to a hero like Captain America...well, Magneto doesn't stand a chance.

Oh, I hear you. I love certain Marvel properties (SQUIRREL GIRL! MS. MARVEL!) so much, but I am really over these big events, and really annoyed with this current "make these guys Hydra agents in spite of their history!" I hate that they made Captain America a Hydra agent when he was basically created by Jewish creators to punch Hitler in the face. It's really frustrating.

Yes, I hate that too - though I haven't read any of it. It really doesn't sound like something I would like. But talk about kicking your own history in the teeth.

And the endless 'events' and 'reboot's are just irritating beyond belief.

There are so many versions reboots and origin stories that all seem to contradict each other with both DC and Marvel characters. It's all too confusing.

That's one of my main gripes with them.

That does sound like a good reason to leave the comics.

Yep. I thought so. Even though it may not even happen.

That's why I'm not a fan of this type of format. I couldn't deal with the constant changing of canon and, literally, with an endless story. If even the Odyssey has an ending, other stories need one too, IMO.

I've read the protests against this plot-twist on Tumblr, but apparently the comic isn't out yet? I do feel like it's a cheap trick to convince more people to read the story, although I can understand your decision.

No, the comic isn't out yet and it may turn out to be completely other than it appears, but it's a timely reminder to those of us who like these ambiguous characters that their creators can do what they hell they like with them, we might not like it, and if we want to avoid the grief we should walk away.

So that's what I'm doing.
