A bit more written

Another scene done. Not much yesterday--life has been a bit crazed here at Chez Shaolin. The friend who I'd figured would be good for a few remuneratively rewarding hours a week got nailed by a big budget reduction in her group. Considering that she's also Gary's boss, she not only regretfully informed me that she couldn't bring me on right now ( Read more... )

The astronomy class sounds exciting. If y'all ever want to come down to see the Griffith Observatory, let me know. Within a month or so I should have my cluttered storage room turned into a guest room, ready for nice guests. :-)

At the Magritte exhibition at LACMA this last weekend with Frank, so many of the paintings reminded me of Gary's paintings that I saw at your house! I kept saying "That's a 'Gary' painting!" to Frank, and he agreed. It was fun to think of you two while we were there...

I would *love* to see Griffiths Observatory! It just reopened, right?

I saw a Magritte exhibit up here at SF MOMA. Gary didn't come, though, the bum. I wish he had. It was really cool.

There are lots of advantages to being a contractor, but then there's the other stuff. Hope the other stuff works out.

Writing scenes. I've discovered a problem I have with planning scenes (or chapters) is that I plan for the scene's biggest moment, and then once the biggest moment happens, my scenes tend to peter out, because I haven't sufficiently planned for the entire scene. I just now deleted a paragraph of petering and decided to end the chapter before the peter. Which isn't the problem you were talking about. You were talking about an entirely different problem. But there it is.

I look forward to reading about your bizarro martial arts, among other things.

I'm getting pretty ruthless about self-pruning during writing, which is perhaps a maturation of the inner editor. My problems are in other areas. :-)

Did you get a chance to finish the book? Oh, and is your snail mail address in the SFWA directory? (I supposed I could just get off my duff and check that out myself....)

Alas, I haven't finished your book yet. I'm not being a very good reader of anything lately. :-/

My address should be in the SFWA directory. Or I could just email it to you ...

I'll quit bugging you. :-) I haven't read Rangergirl yet, so I have nothing to say on the subject of finishing friends' books.
