My friend just sent me this link: 'Top Model' to feature transgender contestant.I have to say, I'm pretty excited for this. I'm less excited, however, for the text my friend included in her email. "Damn... she's convincing." D

At the bottom of that article, there's a link to "discuss this story on NewsVine".
I was a little wary of clicking at first, but...as of right now there's only one comment, which says: It's about time a transgender woman is shown as not only 'normal' but, well . . . pretty. I think it's something that's long overdue and I hope to see more positive stories about transgender people. It seems lately that the only time there is a story featuring trans-people is when one is murdered. Thanks to MSNBC and Tyra Banks for keeping it real.
It will be kind of interesting to see what this looks like from a TV perspective, at least as far as ratings go. I won't watch, simply because I never watch. But it is a little different, and I have to give them credit for trying.
As for the comment about looking "convincing," I wouldn't say any of the contestants there look like your run-of-the-mill woman. *shrug*
I heard about this earlier today from a trans friend (he keeps on top of the news -- all news -- way better than I do XD). We're both pretty apprehensive about how Isis will be "dealt with" on the show; I think they did a good job not making a huge deal out of Kim Stolz's sexuality and gender identity back in season five, so I remain hopeful.
That said, I wish Miss Isis the best. She looks lovely in the picture! (Skinny, though -- I always want to make these girls a sandwich...)
I'm active in the topmodel comm on lj, and the folks there are brutal, but are being more or less nice (so far, nice for them) about this contestant.
And the comm members as well as the judges on the actual ANTM show use the term "drag queen" to describe girls who look "too masculine/tacky" on the show, and I'm hoping this contestant will make them...how to put this nicely....stop being such assholes.
