I heard they are NOT considering a sequel.......I had hopes for it, but all the reviews were thumbs down...... I also heard lately that they are thinking seriously of resurrecting Eddard Stark....... I guess they need to do some work on him as the last anyone saw of him he was headless Leave it to Sean to make it work >;-)
GoT: Yay, I'm glad Ned's death didn't put you off the seies completely!
Personally, having read the books, it does make it a bit easy for me knowing what would happen to the characters. At least I know when to watch the screen between my fingers -- and it doesn't make me not want to watch the show, even knowing how things will play out. But I know some peope don't feel the same.
Joss Whedon definitely knows how to balance the characters and the storyline - and makes you want MORE. It was very very well done. Moa impressed.
I'm not usually into the kids in a series, but the kids in this GoT? I need to know!!! And the blonde woman with the dragons. I absolutely need to find out what happens there. But I gotta say, if you're an honorable person in this series - DOOMED.
At least I know when to watch the screen between my fingers
I don't know of anyone I've talked to who isn't going to see it a second time if not another 3 or 4 times. I'm sure I'll see plenty I missed the first time around.:)
I'm hoping to see Avengers this weekend. Didn't see John Carter but might have if I could have seen it with y'all! And Game of Thrones... I can't speak to whether it's easier to watch if you've read the books, because I have only that experience to draw on. Though I read the books a few years ago, so things feel only familiar without being totally predictable.
I'm watching season 2 of Game of Thrones on HBO right now. Like the books - there are too many characters and some particularly engaging ones get shortchanged to make room for more political stuff. However, I can tell you that so far, Arya (Ned Stark's spunky tomboy daughter) and Daenerys (with the dragons) *are* getting good screen time here in early season 2.
Get up here!! We plan on seeing it again this weekend.:D
John Carter is one of those dumb fun movies. Don't go in expecting much, but the pretty makes up for a lot.

YES!!!!!! You've made me very happy. Arya - I adore that little girl. Deanerys - she's evolving in such an interesting way.
You nailed an issue I have with the series. Too many characters and the short changing. Won't stop me from watching it. I'll be waiting for the DVDS, but there's been moments - too many - where I've been 'wait! we need more time with this person' and off to another scene.
Still, compelling. If I can handle the steamrolled grim, I'll make it. What saved it for me the first season - besides the characters previously mentioned was the humor the Tyrion Lannister added. His character is so interesting! Smart. So, so smart and in his own interesting way, compassionate.
I think you both nailed it on the head about short changing the characters. That is the problem I think I'm having since I did read the books. My favorite Jon Snow seems to have gotten quite shortchanged as have Sansa and Arya. I'm glad that they have focused a lot on Tyrion since he's one of my favorites. The great thing is the character in the book has the same humor so he's just as brilliant to read as he is to watch. They could not have chosen a better actor either. Brilliant!
We've got about five episodes of GoT yet to watch. It is no where near as good as the book but it's alright. They seem to focus on the sex and violence like HBO would and left out a lot of the heart and soul of the characters. Still it is nice to see the story come alive even if I think they could of done way better. Casting wise they were perfect so it has that.
Not sure I would say it's easier watching the series if you read the book because the books are way better. They do seem to be sticking quite close to the books though with the exception of a few things. Renly having a relationship with the one knight wasn't mentioned at all in the first book and so far not in the second book but maybe it's coming up. I am anxious to see how they portray the birth of the dragons but not looking forward to Stark's death. That is one thing I wish I did not know because that is all I'm waiting for while watching the first season.
I've decided to wait with the books for the very reasons you mentioned here.
HBO does love its sex and violence. Makes for edgier TV, right?:)
Waiting for Stark's death - guh. That was hard. I'm probably better off not knowing too much since that was the hardest thing. However, I've decided I shouldn't get too attached to any one character. I gotta say though, I'm happy with the strength of the women in this series. The author makes me very happy in that respect.

I imagine GOT has a long way to go given how much material was
in the books.

Lena Headey - she's scary good at making one want to reach into the set and strangle her.
Awww... Jon Snow icon! He's so pretty and sad.
