Much TV/Movie viewing this weekend.
Saturday night - John Carter. Movie was a bit clunky and one that if they had scaled back some of the 'oh noes, the princess is being forced to marry' element might have been a bit tighter and not quite so cliched. But give it was an Edgar Rice Burroughs story, perhaps that's where the cliche started? *thinking* Nah, that plot is older than that, isn't it?
However, all said and done, I enjoyed. There were some good lines and watching Taylor Kitsch run about half-clothed wasn't a hardship. Mmm.. not at all.:)
Sunday morning - The Avengers! Speaking of people put together well - oh hallelujah to whatever deity you want to hallelujah! There was so much pretty in this movie it was a relief when the heroes split up since the eyes didn't bounce so much attempting to catch all the pretty. I'll admit I had some concerns Tony Stark would have all the good lines, but should've known better. Joss Whedon knows how to spread the good lines around and he's so darn good at taking cliches and twisting them about so they're not.
I can see why people have already seen this movie more than once. We wanted to turn around and watch it again. The very last scene at the end of the credits. Hee. But agent Phil! Nooooo! That was tough. I adored him.
Most of all, I appreciated how you cared about all of them. Whedon has a way with ensemble casts and moving from scene to scene, character from character that you're not left wondering what happened to Black Widow while Iron Man was blasting something. The heroes weren't perfect, but it wasn't done as 'these people are so, so damaged' drama, which personally, I find gets a bit old in these comic book movies. There was enough to get the point across and still twang my competence kink ever so hard. And every single character did in their own ways. Love.
We did the IMAX/3D version. Really appreciated the IMAX/3D version. Sound overwhelms the crunching popcorn of your neighbors. Chris Hemsworth's go on forever legs. All those lovely shoulders in t-shirts and biceps and, and... I really could go on. I could. I'm refraining. My eyes are glazing over just remembering.:D
We'll go again.
Finished Game of Thrones! I think the hardest part was waiting for Sean Bean to die. Once he was gone, okay. Now I really want to know what happens. Is it easier to watch this series if you've read the books? I can say I like the series now. I really, really want to know what happens to Stark's daughters, but I'm not sure I want to be spoiled yet. Decisions, decisions, decisions. But what the idiot boy king set it motion - I hope the Stark daughter that is to marry that little waste of flesh gets some of her own back.
And now there be dragons!
Hope you all had a great weekend! Here's to a good week.:)
