Hello! I just wanted to let you know that this pattern was really helpful! I had given up on making a star, it kept coming out like a flower or just plain lumpy, so I was beginning to think it was impossible! But you proved me wrong and I'm grateful for it. Now I can make the beanie I wanted to for my friend's birthday :]

I actually had an unrelated question. Your blog popped up when I was googled star patterns, and I love the progress meter on the side of your journal. Can you tell me how to get something like that?

hd was a typo, it was supposed to be hdc.
hdc is a half double crochet stitch, and tr is a triple or treble crochet stitch.

Many years after this post was written, just wanted to add a "thanks" for this pattern! It is exactly what I needed to wrap my head around making smallish, adaptable stars.
