Someone on Craftster asked for the pattern for the stars on Mel's hat..

Someone else asked for a pattern on the hat.Which I can't help with. I've never kept track and it wouldn't be helpful to most people if I did. I size hats for my kids. Who both have big heads with lots of hair.
They are top down hats that start with 8 sc in a ring, and I increase a few rows, do a row plain, increase another row, do one plain, I've never really kept track of when I increase and when I work plain, just sort of eye it, when it gets to 72 stitches, I work "plain", a stitch in each stitch. 72 is divisable by 4, 8, 3, 6, 9, and 2 so I plan out my "decorative" stitches accordingly, like the bobbles are every 4 stitches.
I used 3 different colors for each hat, sugar-n-cream has some nice matching sets of yarn, like the variegated green/blue matches a green, a blue and a yellow. Size H hook.
Looking at the star, it's chain 2,
rnd 1-sc 5 times in first stitch, slipstitch to join
rnd 2- ch1, (doesn't count as first st) 2 sc in each stitch, sl st to join (10 sc)
rnd 3- ch 1, sc in same stitch, dc, tr, dc in next st, *sc in next st, dc, tr, dc in next stitch* repeat**around, slip stitch to join (5 points started)
Rnd 4- (I switched colors here) ch 1, sc in same stitch, hdc in next st, hdc,dc, tr, dc,hdc in next st, hdc in next st, *sc in next st, hdc in next st, hdc,dc, tr, dc,hdc in next st, hdc in next st* repeat ** around, sl st to join to first sc (the points have 5 st in them, the rest have one)
Rnd 5- (and back to the green) ch 1, sc in same stitch, hdc in next 3 sts, hdc, dc, tr, dc, hdc in next st, hdc in next 3 st,* sc in next st, hdc in next 3 sts, hdc, dc, tr, dc, hdc in next st, hdc in next 3 st* repeat ** sl st to join
Rnd 6- (blue row) sl st to next st, sc in same st, sc in next 4 st, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 5 st, *skip st, sc in next 5 st, 3 sc in next st,sc in next 5 st* repeat ** around, sk last st, sl st to join. Weave in ends.
At least, that's what it looked like I did. Actually when I was working on it, I did both at the same time, did a round on one, then switched to the other while it was fresh in my head.
I'll work on figuring out the heart tomorrow.
Since I hadn't tested the pattern to make sure I counted right, I tested it, then made a couple stars in different sizes. The pink one is worsted weight cotton- Sugar-n-cream with a size G hook, the blue one is size 3 cotton- Royale Fashion Crochet and a size E hook, the light pink is size 10 cotton with a size 7 hook.
Sugar-n-cream frequently goes on sale for 1.00 a ball, and I stock up then.
