The Post-RSC Histories Ficathon and Lovefest

May 27, 2008 16:08

As of 9 pm CDT, 6/10/08, signups for this ficathon are now CLOSED.

So a while back I was murmuring on this very community about doing a histories-based ficathon, in order to take advantage of the histories love generated by the RSC's cycle, about which I myself am all asquee even though I'm not going to get to see it what with my lack of funds and that big stupid ocean in the way. You may recall I took a survey and the response was favorable enough (given that it was about a) Shakespeare fic b) based on the most unloved section of the First Folio) that I thought I'd go ahead with it, but then I got blindsided by various real life obligations and didn't have time to get it started.

Well, now the semester is over and the RSC cycle is closed, so I have time and a lot of you are looking for your next fix, and since roz_mcclure and the_alchemist asked me about this, I figured, let's do yon thing.

ANNOUNCING THE shaksper_random/thisengland POST-RSC HISTORIES FICATHON AND LOVEFEST

A few clarifications and ground rules:

1. "Histories," for ficathon purposes, means "stuff categorized as histories in the 1623 Folio," which means "medieval and early Renaissance English histories." Which means the two tetralogies (Richard II/Henry IV/Henry V and Henry VI/Richard III), King John, and Henry VIII. Macbeth, King Lear, and Cymbeline don't count for this ficathon, but I suppose you can count Edward III and Sir Thomas More if you like.

2. I'm setting this up as a fic exchange, since that seems more likely to ensure that we all finish, and because then I don't have to come up with prompts.

3. We're open to pretty much whatever genre -- gen, het, slash, femslash if anyone wants it and you can come up with any pairings (I am afraid the histories do not actually pass the Bechdel test, under whose terms they are not worth watching. We are very misguided people, the lot of us).

4. I'm starting the ficathon here and will probably post all the admin stuff here, but I might use thisengland for the actual fics, since it's not like we're using it for anything else, these days.

5. Word limit for fics is 1000 minimum, like in yuletide.

Things to let us know when you sign up:

1. What you want (be as specific or not as you want; it would be helpful, though, to mention a few different things, to make matchups easier and to give your writer a bit of a choice).

2. What you are most comfortable writing

3. What you would rather not write

4. Whether you're willing to pinch-hit

Email all of this info to me at strangebrooch AT gmail DOT com by 10 JUNE (two weeks from today). Don't forget to include your lj handle if it's not clear from your email and/or I don't know who you are. Alternately, I suppose you could just post here. The final deadline for fics is tentatively set at 31 JULY. (This is negotiable if it's a bad time for participants.)
