More damn mice

I caught a mouse in my house last night. The good news is that I caught it. The bad news is that I heard more mice around. These mice were not around when I left last week! I realized I had mice again when I got home and opened my pantry - they had opened a bag of crackers and some chocolate. The weird thing was that this stuff was on the TOP ( Read more... )

dude, i totally caught a mouse in my apartment in troy by taping a ziplock bag filled with crushed graham crackers to the hole it gnawed in the ceiling! Then we bought it a cage and tried to keep it but I think it died of fear, which has made me pretty sad ever since.

Ooh, neat trick. Maybe I could catch multiple ones at a time with that method.

I said that the concept was that the mouse would land in the bag, eat the crackers, and then be too fat to crawl back in the hole. I was pretty much kidding, and everybody laughed at the idea, but when it worked I told everybody I was totally serious all along (lie).

I know that you want to be humane and all about the mice, but I'm going to say that I'm a big fan of poison. Since you don't have any pets, it should be perfectly safe for you to use. We put out a little box of D-con and we never see the mice again. I know it's not that environmentally friendly, but it totally works.

Actually, I'm not too worried about being humane at this point. I do have other snap traps set up in the house.

My worry about using poison is that there is the risk that the mouse won't go outside, and then they would die in my house. I had a mouse die in the walls of our apartment in Hartford, and the smell was unbearable for several weeks. If you've had good results with no problem like that then maybe I will give it a try.
