Here's A Disturbing Thought

Mar 08, 2006 19:34

The first major purchase I make this year, rather than the long-coveted laptop or the now-rapidly-becoming-necessary car, will be a dishwasher for m0mmy. This purchase is motivated largely by selfishness, as ours broke before Thanksgiving and we can't afford to fix it and so the dishes just pile up until one of us grows sick of living in our own ( Read more... )

Dishwashers aren't boring, they're sexy.

And you need to check your e-mail. :D

Awwww, that's so nice of you to buy your mom a dishwasher. And I think it says something about my age and my own sad state of domesticity that I would be excited to buy a dishwasher as I now find large appliances interesting. Not as interesting as more One Piece crap of course...but sadly, pretty high up there.

The original game plan was to buy it and not tell her, but it came out over the dinner table. Initially she was against it, but I pointed out that we really did need one and that it would be a good way for me to build credit (and besides, someday I'm going to be buying my own large appliances). Besides, see under "motivated by selfishness" XD.

Yes, fandom crap pwnz ALL. XD

I cannot imagine life without a dishwasher, not for extended periods. Go get that dishwasher, and show it who's boss and who should be taking care of cleaning up filth that would otherwise be stacking up in the sink! (That's what would happen at our house with no dishwasher. I would faint dead, literally dead.)

You should be proud to be Man of the House. In our decent marriage, it will be required of you to be the Bringer of Appliances! ^__^V

Yes, ma'am! Right away! ^_-

I am, but I don't think it had ever occurred to me before that being the Man Of The House and Bringer Of Appliances actually required some financial outlay.

A dishwasher is worth the financial investment. The one we installed a few years after my parents bought this house has lasted over ten years now, and it never has any problems. Also, it makes houses more desirable if, for any reason, y'all want to sell your house. All in all, it's worth it.

This has been pro-appliance propaganda, brought to you by me. If it's convenient to modern life, it should be in your kitchen. **nods, not very solemnly**

Pro-appliance propaganda?! Teh gasp! Teh shock! Teh BOURGEOIS DECADENCE! ^_-

All right, I agree to be the Bringer Of Appliances, if you agree to fulfill the duties that will be required of you as the w0m4n of the house (specifically, cooking mammoth and bearing sons). ^_-

White good are good, because they can almost be counted as Assets and therefore are not wastes of money like such things as DVDs and books on Russians ;)

I'll have you know that books on Russians are indeed Assets! ;) For instance, if I were to get Isaac Deutscher's magisterial 3-volume work, OMG SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE LEV DAVIDOVICH IS TEH HAWTTZ0RZ I could use it for Serious Research Purposes which would totally not entail sighing dreamily over the pictures.

Dishwashers are good, however, as they make the value of the house go up, which is doubleplusgood. (God, I hate Orwell.)

I don't think a bank would accept it as collateral on a loan, though ;)

Yeah, I'd think they'd probably add about five times their actual value. It's funny how things work like that.

True. Not that I'd want them to, as that would mean that if they repossessed it I would be up the Amazon on a rubber duck without pictures to sigh dreamily over. ;)

I'll never understand The Real World (tm).
