Take it with a grain of salt, but I wouldn't. It would make me uncomfortable.
What are you comfortable with? Once you figure that out, you'll have your answer. You could try to stay somewhere less expensive in the area to cut costs.
Well, I don't want to stay at a different hotel than my friends because that would involve more isolation than I want and probably some walking alone. It doesn't really make me uncomfortable so much as worrying about appearances and whether I'll actually be able to sleep.
You can shack up with a guy if he doesnt care, or try to find a hostel if you can stand a dorm environment. Bak-Pak is a hostel chain you may want to ckeck out.
Sod the appearance thing. If your husband is genuinely fine with it and it's not going to cause probs down the line, who are you worried about?
I do know that there are some really cool and cheapish places to stay in Amsterdam if you don't stay in the posh hotels along the canal. I went with 2 girlfriends and we got a huge apartment pretty cheap because it was in the red-light district. The hotel also owned a bar & hash cafe. On the day we arrived, there was a problem with the locks on the room (which had just been installed badly) and they gave us free drinks in the bar til they sorted it out. And it was great getting back bcos we knew we were in the right street when we saw the giant neon sign which said CHIQUITA'S SEX PARADISE.
The thing is, even earplugs don't help me through bad snoring. I spend about half my evenings in the guest bed when Mr. Shags is having a bad snoring night, despite wearing earplugs.
Let's put it this way - I have to wear earplugs even when alone to sleep ;)
You should consider asking a doctor. They make different kinds of ear protection. I worked in a factory. There are custom molded ear things. You probably have ears which are non-standard in some subtle way and sound leaks through. The custom molded ones cost more, but if you're having that kind of problems every day, it might be worth the money.

Well, to be honest, I had to put several pillows over my head in addition to the earplugs :) But you weren't the worst, believe it or not. I had one where I had to finally give up and go play all night. I've also gotten more sensitive over time :(
Money was a lot tighter then for me than it has been this past year or so.
hmmm. no one will think less of you. so i always say saving money > appearences, as long as it's someone you trust!
now. if i may digress here? i googled my way to your fanfic page, and i clicked on A Tragic Circle and i devoured it!!!!! everrrrrrry word. *loves* it was sooooooo good. i want the rest. i almost cried when i saw that it hasnt been updated since Feb 2005. PLEASE! pleeease tell me you're still writing this! and that you're posting it somewhere? or might send it to me? pretty please??? so... then i wrote an email to the one on the sight... and it got returned?! :( so then i googled your name, and i found an LJ! and i was like... zomg!! she wrote a few days ago. so hi. here i am. save me!?
I wish I could tell you I've been writing but my muse has been on a very long vacation and I've had trouble getting up the interest in writing. It is frustrating to me too, since I have a master plan for the story and it's not like I don't know what happens or ran out of ideas. I just have been a bit derailed, partly because of how far off it is from HBP but partly because of things having nothing to do with HP.
I won't say it will never get updated but I doubt it will be soon. It will be posted at all the same places if it is.
