For those who are link-a-phobic that is an article about a raid at the Motor City Comic Convention by the RIAA targeting dealers who are selling Bootleg DVD's for profit.

I always wondered when this would happen, I've been going to conventions for almost a decade now and slowly I've seen the one

I think they were really after the more recent flicks, I know when Matrix; Revolutions was still in the theaters I found Trilogy sets at a con, one guy commented that he found copies of DaVinci Code for sale on the street a few blocks away from a theater. At least I think that's what triggered it, that and the cost I've seen these things sell at cons for almost the cost of a legit copy, and since most are shitty grade it's not worth it.

Bootleg J-Pop and other imports are huge at cons as well.

But man that must have been a sight to see a shat load of cops crashing a comic book convention of all places.

I know at least at the couple of anime cons I go to they've cracked down hard on bootleggers. I haven't seen anyone knowingly selling bootleg DVDs and CDs at the past few I've been to - although I don't go to the horrifically huge cons either.

I have no problem with the bootlegging unlicensed stuff/TV shows that haven't had a DVD release. It's everything else that makes me twitchy.

I've seen pretty blatant bootleggers at the KC Cons...which are not exactly small but not on the scope of the Motor City Con. We have another in Oct, it'll be intersting to see if those dealers are back in KC this year after this.
