It is. The kickoff is usually the weekend before it starts and it's just a way to get to know the local people who are participating, get a goodie bag, hear a (hopefully) good pep talk, general stuff to get into the spirit. This time (first time in the Houston area) door prizes were given out and we tossed a bit of our plot onto a card and passed it around. People read it and added a couple suggestions or questions that you can refer back to if you get stuck later in the month. It was fun. :)
