It was really that bad, eh? I can't wait to see it myself, if just so I can cringe through the thing...I fully expect to shout at the screen at least once, lol, maybe I should go see it at the drive-in instead...
They picked such an odd cast! The guy from 'Shawn of the Dead' for Scotty, and freakin' Eomer from LotR as McCoy, how strange! The guy who plays Spock is actually a good actor normally, but I would never have equated him with that role... Still, it sounds like a good time, if just to spice up the Trek world after 'Enterprise' failed.
On the up side, it is good to see/read you again! (look who's slow on the draw, lol) I've been busy, but not so busy as you by the sound of it. ^_^ High on my list of new discoveries: kissing girls is a lot like kissing guys, only softer, lol.
Oh, you saw it dubbed? How unfortunate...My folks and I are supposed to go see it next week--I'll let you know if the english is any better. It would be hard to beat Leanord Nimoy as Spock anyway, ya know? Shatner approves of the choice of newKirk, btw--says "he's young, handsome, and he'll be very rich someday" lol.
lol! they're actually rather a snuggly bunch that i've been hanging out with--but I've found they have their rougher side. *ggg*
Besides agreeing with some of your negative points and still loving the movie...
...ST II was made by a non-fan too. That's why they go all naval in that one, and there are some strange things in it which fans hardly ever notice, like cadets having to open gutters to let the photon torpedoes out!

Easier for you! Even I can see the K/Mc there, whereas my beloved K/S is pretty dead. (Except with the Spock from the original universe. Yes, I'm currently writing that story and I'm so going to hell for it. *g*)
The manually operated torpedoes were in the new one as well. (I don't remember ST II all that well. I've only seen it twice because it leaves me too depressed.) I'm not getting over the fact that they built the Enterprise on the ground. And I'm pretty sure the space drill is fishy phsyics, too. *sigh* I never thought I'd end up being the grumpy old fan at my (compared to most orginal fans) relatively young age, but it looks like I did...
It's interesting to read a review of that movie by an actual long-time fan and K/S buff :). I was barely knew anything about Star Trek when I saw that movie so for me it was a revelation and I absolutely loved it. But since I started watching the original series (I actualy went out and bought all 3 seasons, first 6 movies and half a dozen old ST novels), I can see the differences between the original and this version. It doesn't lessen my enjoyment of the new movie, but I agree that Pinto's portrayal of Star Trek is very different than Nimoy's and no, his Spock doesn't have the same sense of humor. I'm hoping it's going to develop in the next movies. As for Spock/Uhura, I rather resented that it took focus away from Kirk and Spock :). Lol.
If there's one thing I'm grateful for about the new movie, it's the fact that it got so many new fans into the original series. Welcome to the fandom! ":-D

In my opinion... Pretty much everybody else is squeeing happily, though.

I didn't know him before, but I don't think he makes a good Spock... Maybe it's better in the original, but his dub voice was awful.

Agreed! That's the one thing I'm grateful for.
