Random Asides

I am very smart. I graduated magna cum laude, with a 3.66 GPA, and a 3.92 GPA in my major. I made the Dean's List six out of my eight undergrad semesters. I'm currently pursuing an advanced degree, and my advisor--one of the top scholars in the field of Shakespeare--asked to be my advisor. Asked. I can converse intelligently with people in my field ( Read more... )

Because brains are better at narrative and associative tasks than lexical tasks, and the "top" of a women's blouse is ill-defined topologically speaking, given that the "correct" tension is difficult to judge by the nerves along one's shoulders and back?

also, if it works, it isn't juvenile.

I went to the Mass Academy of Math and Science at WPI This is a school for very advanced students. I too cannot tell my right from my left without resorting to juvenile tricks, nor can I read an analog watch in a reasonable length of time. I decided one day to see if I was unique among my "gifted" classmates. Nope. I didn't get any statistics or anything but there was a definite trend towards being unable to tell left from right or read an analog watch, but many of the people who lacked these abilities could do integral calculus in their heads. I decided that we brilliant people have to have these traits in order to maintain our reputation as "eccentric." Or perhaps our brains are full and there is no room for such trivial abilities. In any case, I decided not to worry about it too much.

If the whole zombie end of the world thing wasn't such a scary thing...that post would be very funny. (It still is, but not as much).

I find I've gotten better at telling which is my left and right since I've started driving because I drive on the right side of the road and that just kind of made it click. I don't know about the button thing though...it doesn't seem to matter where I button it up from, something doesn't match up properly, but then again, I'm no where near as intelligent as you are.

Plenty of people can't tell their left from their right. I didn't understand this for a very long time, because my right side is usually more, well, in control by my brain or something. I'm more aware of it, I guess. Then suddenly I stopped always being able to tell my right from my left. About two years ago. It was very weird and still happens occasionally. And I have a f$%&ing Ph.D., bitch, so don't call me stupid for not knowing my left from my right, and don't tell my friend shadowravyn she's stupid either!

P.S. A Ph.D. is a terribly useful thing for one's self esteem. I highly recommend getting one.

I'm very smart, and I have none of the qualifications you listed. Conversely, I know a lot of people who have similar qualifications who are absolute idiots.

Grades, to me, mean nothing. Having been somewhat responsible for handing them out may have had a hand in that, but I'd come to that conclusion long ago.

You are not helping my self-esteem here, pal.

We can totally make out. I'll still respect you for your brains. Which hemisphere is up to you to figure out. Good luck!

Yeah...I just saw the subject line. Which I guess means I can scratch "reads very well" off my list of acomplishments!
