Fic Recs: Harry/Draco, Part 2

Dec 13, 2010 22:56

This wouldn't all fit into one post, so here are the Harry/Draco recs with titles N-Z.

  • Never the Same Again by dragon_charmer
Harry/Draco, mpreg. The war is still going on, Voldemort is in control of everything, and Draco is a spy who discovers that he’s pregnant. It’s not long before Voldemort finds out, too. I really enjoyed this, and it has a unique plot point of Voldemort being in charge of the delivery and wanting to keep the baby for himself-something I can totally believe would happen if Draco were unfortunate enough to be caught in this situation. So I rec it for its originality and believability.
  • Now the Shining Sun is Up by tkp
Harry/Draco. Um. I may have died laughing while reading this fic. But it's also very poignant and lovely. Also, I want to quote every line. I love Draco here! He actually seems canon. For example, Protestwatch reminded me so much of the Potter Stinks badges. And the way he decorates his meager house has a kind of dignity that I don't think I've read before-usually Draco's destitute and living in squalor; I think he's much more realistic here. Tkp sneaks in references to canon in such clever ways, too! Like how Narcissa loves Draco, and he loves her back. So sweet. Also, tkp gets many hugs for the Teddy-Draco stars sweetness. “What is it this time? Did the Minister’s hippogriff, like, peck you, or something?” And Fiendfyre. And Jimbo and goggles! Great fic.
  • A Quiet Full of Longing by themostepotente
Harry/Draco. An imagining of the future Draco could have--with awesome steampunk elements! This is really originally written: both future-tense and second person, but instead of it being hard to read, I just fell into the writing. The future tense in particular really works here, and in the end when it zooms back to the present, I was left breathless. There’s also a startlingly creative take on magic, magical transportation, and memory retrieval that’s just lovely. Not to mention the round-the-world-in-40-days magical race! And is Harry and Draco on a flying motorbike not an incredibly sexy image? I think the author does a brilliant job at showing us just how much potential Draco really has. Quote: Potter will give you little to no indication of what he's been up to in the barn, but on some nights he will come inside with fingernails blackened and hair slick with grease. Because you are meticulously clean to the point of obsessive, it will not occur to you just how soot-smudged and sweat-caked he is, until you remember your visits to Azkaban and how the only things holding your soul-broken father together are the dirt and the detritus.
  • Perfect Day by scrtkpr
Harry/Draco. The most creative take on Felix Felicis ever, for the prompt Fortune. Scrtkpr has Draco down perfectly-how exactly like him is it to do what he does with the stuff! The little details Scrtkpr includes from canon are incredible-so many open ends in canon finally and beautifully tied up. I had tears in my eyes for the scene with the Resurrection Stone, with Snape and Dumbledore and especially Crabbe knowing what’s happening and Draco quickly becoming more ill. Lovely writing. And really, the author’s Harry is right: it does make a ton of sense to destroy it and the Elder Wand, doesn’t it? I don’t feel quite comfortable with them still sitting out in the forest or in Dumbledore’s tomb. Quote: “You used Death's invisibility cloak to throw mud at me in our third year…” Ha! Great story, very original.
  • Railway Lands by maelipstick
Harry/Draco, lots of warnings, like drug abuse and prostitution, so please read the warnings. Author’s summary: Draco finds his own way to cope with being a failed Death Eater at Voldemort's headquarters. Voldemort finds a way to destroy the wizarding world even after his death. Harry is trying to hold the world together while his mind quietly comes apart. Holy. Shit. This is amazing, epic, utterly bewitching and gorgeous. And plotty! Oh, the phenomenal plot that starts during Deathly Hallows and continues until years later! I generally hate reading stories about drug abuse because I can’t seem to empathize with the user. But I fell hard for Maelipstick’s Draco here, who starts taking a potion to help him deal with the overwhelming fear of having Voldemort living in his family home, seriously. And you know what? I totally buy that, and I don’t begrudge Draco needing something to cope. I could actually easily see this being canon, and I kind of wish it were. Then Voldemort puts a curse on him, and Harry and the wizarding world have to deal with the consequences. This story is epic beyond belief. It will drag you into the world through the details that pull you into the scene without sugar-coating anything, and I couldn’t stop reading. Do note that there’s something kind of weird in that there are lots of comma errors in the dialogue, but for once the writing is so utterly captivating and the plot so original and lovely that they didn’t bother me one bit. Definitely don’t miss this one! And review it here.
  • Reparo by amalin
Harry/Draco. This is THE Eighth Year Fic. No, seriously. Amalin’s grasp on canon is just breathtaking, and I love her Draco. I couldn’t stop grinning that Ron was Teddy’s favorite-it just makes sense, doesn’t it? I also think Amalin’s the first person I’ve read who has tackled Hermione’s feelings after using a Memory Charm on her parents or to write about Andromeda this deeply. The Sorting Hat song was phenomenal. And OMG for Ron’s Deluminator, Draco’s scars from the chandelier falling, the Harry Potter, Seeker of Justice badge. Amalin just keeps reminding me of little details I’d forgotten in canon, including them so creatively. Like how Draco becomes the de facto Head of House for the little “ducklings,” that was really sweet. I also totally want to hug Harry for the whole Sirius’ mirror thing, too. And helicopters-what a detail! Even the goddamn sex scenes seem canonical (humming “Weasley is Our King” during a blowjob and Ron not being satisfied until he’d compared sizes…just…yes). And of course Draco having Sirius’ eyes. If it happened this way, this is exactly how it would happen, if that makes any sense at all. This was wonderful. As an added treat, there's a superb 8-hour audio file of this story by the immensely talented (and British!) PennyPlainKnits here, which I highly recommend. I'm particularly in love with her voicing of Draco.
  • Rising from the Ashes by oldenuf2nb
Harry/Draco. Like the Sacrifices Arc, this story portrays lots of wonderful magical creatures with a creative premise: after narrowly avoiding Azkaban, Draco has to serve out probation as Hagrid's assistant. In the meantime, he has a very Slytherin plan to save his father. I really liked this story; the Malfoys were believable, and OMG, for once Hagrid is actually portrayed as a real character! Hagrid is given a nice, quiet dignity here, which is nice to see because fandom so often ignores him.
  • The Road by rurounihime
Harry/Draco, other pairings. I wanted action-packed wartime adventure; I found that Rurounihime had delivered this masterpiece. She's weaved a fascinating and deeply dark world of war and pain-and excellent battle sequences. Draco delivers Ginny to Harry so they can perform a binding spell to help end the seemingly endless war. Every minor character, Ginny lovingly included, is given a respectful and moving treatment, so much so that every character is three-dimensional. And she writes tension and suspense so well. Her descriptions of Draco's injuries is particularly beautiful and realistic. I think one of my favorite things is that both Harry and Draco have very deep and meaningful relationships with the other people fighting the war, Harry with Ron, Hermione, Luna, Ginny..., Draco with his parents, Theodore Nott, Blaise, and Pansy. It's still a work in progress, but Rurounihime does still update, and what's there is superb enough to rec even if she never finishes. Quote: For the hundredth time since they’d begun, Ginny found herself pondering the fact that she, the youngest of the Weasleys, was trustingly following Draco Malfoy through a war-twisted landscape crawling with followers of Voldemort.
  • The Rules of War by calrissian18
Harry/Draco. Beginning of author’s summary: After having his tentative advance rebuffed, Harry has been Imperius-ing Draco into having a relationship with him. Subtly disturbing; warnings for rape, largely offscreen mpreg, discussion of abortion. Wow, just wow. It’s simply astounding how the author takes us from the Harry at the beginning of this story to the Harry who does the things he does, and they all stay perfectly in character and are completely plausible. Because for all he’s the hero of the wizarding world, Harry can sometimes be this self-centered, this entitled, this blind to other people maybe not wanting the same things that he wants, and that’s where he can become, well, dangerous. Quote: He had never even considered that Malfoy might not want him.
  • The Sacrifices Arc by lightningwave or here
Harry/Draco, eventually, as well as a ton of other pairings. This is the most epic, most well-plotted, most interestingly characterized, probably longest alternate universe in the Harry Potter fandom. As such, you absolutely must read it; you cannot miss this treasure. It's three times as long as the original HP books, and about fifty times more intricate and intelligent and complicated. Lightning's original characters are the best out there, to the point where many consider Lightning's world and characters actual canon. She builds up the world to the point where it is shockingly real and beautiful. This entire series was a ridiculously ambitious undertaking (one worthy of a Slytherin!), and Lightning carries it out with aplomb. She essentially takes Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and makes it come alive, so that now I know so much more about magical creatures than I ever did before. The same is true of the breathtaking way she writes so-called minor characters in canon, but in the story they have a chance to take center stage and reveal their true potential and shine. For example, the interactions between Henrietta Bulstrode (who doesn't even exist in canon, hard though it is for me to believe now) and Evan Rosier are some of the sexiest and most twisted ever. Lightning's Harry has a very refreshing way of anticipating problems and traps that canon Harry never foresaw and dealing with them directly, which causes a whole world of other problems to open up in front of him. There are many things in this story that may not sit well with some readers, but she seems to understand this and work through those problems to show that there are no easy answers. By the end, I totally trusted her to do that, and knew she had a very good reason for everything. This story explains not only house elves' servitude but also the goblin rebellions, and her grasp on magic is one of the best I've ever read. I'm astonished at the brilliant way that she has written this series; readers have claimed it has had a profound impact on their lives. Basic plotline: Harry has a twin brother named Connor, Lily and James never died, and Harry goes to Slytherin, where he meets Draco and Snape. The intricacies begin. Series consists of: Saving Connor (Book 1), No Mouth By Some Serpents (Book 2), Comes Out of Darkness Morn (Book 3), Freedom and Not Peace (Book 4), Wind that Shakes the Seas and Stars (Book 5), A Song in Time of Revolution (Book 6), I Am Also Thy Brother (Book 7).
  • Savage by marguerite_26
Harry/Draco, werewolf!Draco. Author's summary, which is good: In a post-war world that lives in fear and ignorance of werewolves, Draco Malfoy has taken every step to keep his condition hidden. When the delicate balance of his life shatters in a single moment, it is Harry Potter alone standing in his defence. Ah, finally! Here's the werewolf fic I've been wanting to see written! Draco is given a false-Wolfsbane potion that enhances instead of takes away his wolf senses, and he's horrified at the results. Draco is so wonderfully in character here, and I like Harry's, George's, and Teddy's involvement, all of which make perfect sense and are nice to read. Also, Harry getting turned on by possessive werewolf!Draco is, like, the sexiest thing ever. I also love this quote from Draco: “But when I transform, you are nowhere near me. This isn't a freak show. Go, and come back in a couple hours.” It's just so him to not want to be seen as a freak, even now. This was great. Quote: The chain was long, maybe too long-he'd be able to destroy the entire room, but the most important thing was that he wouldn't be able to get free. He set the phial on his bedside table and stripped to his pants, folding each piece of clothing neatly on his chair. That image really reminds me of Remus. I can totally see both him and Draco doing this, calmly and sadly testing the shackles while folding their clothes, which makes me sad but I love the connection between Draco and Remus. I love this fic! I'm torn between whether I prefer this or “The Fields of St. Herve” as my favorite Draco-as-a-werewolf fic.
  • Secrets by Vorabiza
Harry/Draco. Basically, after completing Half-Blood Prince, I wish I’d just plunged into this nicely epic tale, because it follows wonderfully. Draco shows up at the Dursleys’, and Harry finds his world shifting. I’ll let you know, in my opinion this story isn’t phenomenal, but it’s really damn good, reminding me a lot of the Sacrifices Arc. Vorabiza is very clever at picking up little details from HBP and turning them into fully-fledged plot points to make a story that I couldn’t stop reading. There are some great situations Harry gets into, and super-creative Horcrux-hunting is just one of them. At one point he has…oh, let’s see…Draco, Narcissa, Victoria (you’ll meet her), Winky, Hedwig, Fawkes, and four Hogwarts-colored snakes living with him in his tiny little room at the Dursleys’. Seriously, can you imagine that? “Secrets” is worth reading just for that lovely, hilarious situation. And Harry’s explanation of the difference between “not dying” and “staying alive” is a very interesting insight into his character. I like Draco’s character here, but he’s not presented with as much care as Harry (a complaint I had about the Sacrifices Arc, too). It’s okay, though, because Harry is handled nicely, growing up very quickly to become the leader he needs to be. There are also lots of quite humorous moments. (Harry blinked in astonishment. "You were preparing to go into hiding, and you went shopping?!" or [Harry] quickly stuffed the Horcruxes into his bag...He was not going to eat with pieces of Voldemort sitting at the table.) What I didn’t like: despite its length, some things are…oddly rushed. Characters’ emotions change extremely quickly but not always logically, people are accepting to the point of ridiculousness about some things, and several of the cool problems Harry encounters are fixed with what seems suspicious ease. Also, it tends to drag in parts. But still, the plot will definitely hook you. Quote: By the time Monday arrived, Harry himself was concerned about his mental health. He was willing to admit he didn't have any clue about babies, Occlumency, Draco, Snape, Horcruxes, Voldemort, his friends-none of it. He'd thought he'd been exhausted before. He'd been so incredibly wrong.
  • Seven Lines by bookshop
Harry/Draco. This one really packs a punch. It's wartime hurt/comfort, but for its brevity it has a ton of emotion and meaning and characterization. It's lovely.
  • Six Ways in Which Harry Potter Was Like Bambi's Dad by brummell
Harry/Draco, mpreg. It's a crack!fic premise that somehow evolved into quite a deep story. Draco gives birth to a “natural Animagus,” and Harry wishes he were there. I don't like how long it took Harry to get back into their lives at the end, but I always appreciate a well-written mpreg story, and this is definitely one.
  • Starts With a Spin by maxine_chan or here or here
Harry/Draco. This is the most fun fic I think I've ever read. Spin the Bottle! Truth or Dare! I've Never! Strip poker! “I dare you to cuddle!” Fantastic! I adore how everything is a competition, and I also really like how the whole school seems to be keeping tabs on how far Harry and Draco have progressed; the fact that they're pretty open about it is a plot device I haven't seen before but really enjoy. The make-out sessions with other players watching is some of the hottest writing EVER. Also, the boys' first time is incredibly written, realistic with how it can be painful and pleasurable. And OMG for the Potions sex and Harry's neck fetish and drunken Draco. And Seamus, Hermione, Pansy, and Blaise collaborating. Also, yay for supportive!Ron. I really loved that. Moreover, both Harry and Draco are SO in character it's ridiculous. They're having sex but still hate each other and call each other by their last names and Draco is at least on the surface convinced he can kill (but not torture) Harry...it's just delightful. I loved this so much. Does having sex on a train gain one admittance into the Mile High Club? By the name, I suspect not. Pity. Quote: “Uh, is there something wrong with Seamus?” Harry asked, puzzled. “I don’t want him hitting on me,” Draco said waspishly. “I don’t like boys.” And then he promptly wrapped his arms tightly around Harry’s waist.
  • Steam by melusinahp
Harry/Draco. Auror partners (I think?) Harry and Draco are each trapped together and hit with a different curse: one to boil alive and the other to freeze to death. Really, there’s only one solution. This short little story is really, really hot. Er, cold. Both. The characterizations are brilliant as both Harry and Draco (and the reader) try to figure out how to break the curse, and because it’s melusinahp, the writing is gorgeous. I adore this concept-how utterly creative! I love the ice crystals forming on Draco's eyelashes. Such lovely imagery throughout. I’ve read this one over and over. Quote: It was an awful situation, but the blistering heat made it a million times worse. With a grunt of annoyance, Harry tugged off his cloak and threw it to the side. Malfoy stared at it. Then, moving slowly as if that would somehow make what he was doing less obvious, he stretched out his arm. Once his fingers closed around the fabric, he snatched it and wrapped it around himself, holding it tightly closed. I’m pretty sure I’ve read every story with Draco in it that melusinahp's written because I love her characterization of him in particular.
  • Stone of Hope by dm-p
Harry/Draco. Author’s summary, which is perfect: Draco Malfoy, a prisoner in Azkaban, has been accused of kidnapping and murdering Pansy Parkinson. Auror Harry Potter fights to prove his innocence. I adored this. It felt so real to me. I'll admit, I'm a sucker for Azkaban!fics, but I'm especially struck by the way the authors captures the mood and psychology of a person in prison and then just released from prison. Quote: Draco caught his breath and whispered, “Christmas is almost here.” The Quick Quotes Quill jumped to life. His general cluelessness was on the record. He wondered vaguely if Potter had finished his shopping. I think it's that passage I'm in love with. You just feel how helpless and lost he is, how out-of-touch with the world that’s been passing while he’s been incarcerated. Lovely, bittersweet fic.
  • Survival Instinct by lavillanueva or here
Harry/Draco, warnings for torture, Horcruxes. This is an AU Seventh Year fic, written after Deathly Hallows, where Harry stays at Hogwarts instead of tramping around the countryside (for reasons that make sense and are explained. In fact, had canon played out like this, it would have been so much more efficient!). Oh my God, where has this fic been all my life? Guys, this plot and these characterizations read like canon. I literally could not stop reading; the words flew off the screen for me. Harry is at Hogwarts in the first place because Voldemort agrees not to harm the students’ families if Harry stays there, Harry goads the Carrows into torturing him to protect others, Harry still has his visions, and Harry’s still obsessed with Draco Malfoy. Who is, in a word, fantastic. He’s so believable: hopeless, tired, weak, ill, scared out of his mind but with a kind of quiet dignity. In other words, so perfectly in-character I’m in awe. One of my favorite scenes: there is an utterly brilliant moment where Draco is told to use the Cruciatus curse on Harry, and Harry sees that he’s not going to be able to do it-and actually works to goad Draco into being angry with him. Just…brilliant, and great foreshadowing. And if that weren’t enough, Snape is written just like canon!Snape, i.e. giving perfectly valid advice very cryptically and nastily. I couldn’t recommend this more highly. Quote, just one of many I could have picked: Harry tried to read the expression on Malfoy's face as Carrow growled at him. It was the first time all year he'd drawn the professor's attention to himself-drawn any attention, really….Malfoy wasn't fading into the background now though, now he had the full attention of the school's Dark Arts professor and resident disciplinarian. And he was scared; though his face gave nothing away, Harry could see his ferocious heartbeat through the pulse-point on his neck. Sitting so close in the noiseless room, it was a wonder Harry couldn't hear it as well, couldn't feel it reverberate through his own body. By the way, definitely hit up Lavillanueva's masterlist here, and especially her supremely awesome Harry-gets-revenge-for-the-train-incident fic, Waiting.
  • Sweatin’ to the Voldies by dark-branwen
Harry/Draco. Author’s summary: The-Boy-Who-Lived has become The-Boy-Who-Ate, and his girlfriend just can't take it anymore. After Ginny leaves Harry for presumably slimmer pastures, Harry realizes that if he has any chance of getting her back, he's going to have to get fit quick. It's really just his bad luck that a certain pale, pointy bastard owns the only wizarding gym in the country. I spent half this fic laughing hysterically and the other half in awe of what the author was going to do next. This was so funny and so touching at the same time. Harry's perception of himself is really entertaining, and Draco as snarky-yet-vulnerable is awesome. But I'm especially in love with Luna, Goyle, and Ginny, and of course Hermione and especially Ron at the end. Lots of good dieting tips in here, too! Quote: That night, Harry ate, which even he had to admit was probably not the healthiest response to being left by your girl because you'd put on some weight....Things continued in this matter for the next three days. He ate, he got pissed, he watched television, he sulked, he cried, and he thought of Ginny. On the third day, at approximately three in the morning, he came across an infomercial for the next revolutionary work out machine.
  • Tea and No Sympathy (70,045 words) by who-la-hoop
Harry/Draco. After the war, Draco experiments with a time-turner and gets trapped in a Groundhog Day situation, falling more in love each day with Harry, who can’t remember. Oh my god, this was such an amazing and creative story. I just loved how the author used the concept of Groundhog Day to give Draco everything he needs to become a better person: time without the stress of his everyday life and responsibilities to his family. It's so sad that that's all he needs, really, is time to sort out who he is and who he wants to be (instead of who he's expected to be), and he doesn't get it in canon. But beyond that, seeing him slowly fall in love with Harry more and more and seeing how much it hurts that Harry can't remember what they've been through was great. Harry's delicious in this! Wonderful story!
  • That Way Lies Camelot by scoradh and cynicalpirate
Harry/Draco. Also from the H/D Big Bang, this story is really unexpectedly funny (not what you’d expect from a seventh-book fic), with four of the best OCs ever. Harry, Draco, Ron, and Hermione somehow end up at the same Muggle bed and breakfast. Unifer City! God, the character of Richard! How careful Draco is when drying plates! Also features an exceptionally prudish Draco, which strikes me as very canon. The ending doesn’t mesh with the rest of the story, but that’s okay because the rest of the story is phenomenal, and the sex is really hot. Quote: Malfoy is absorbed in some poison ivy, with an expression that suggests he’d like to garrotte Harry with it. For some reason, Harry finds this endearing. He hopes all his future relationships will be this fulfilling, complete with semi-unwilling sex and murderous impulses towards the greenery.
  • Then Comes A Mist and a Weeping Rain by faithwood
Harry/Draco. To put it simply, this is the story of Draco and his cloud. I hesitate to call it adorable, as I think Draco would personally kill me, but it is certainly a fun, sweet, in-character eighth year story about Draco enlisting Harry's help to get rid of an annoyingly persistent (and delightfully moody) cloud that's been pestering Draco since he conjured it. This fic makes me very happy.
  • Things That Change by Ociwen
Draco/Harry, mpreg with a million little complications. One of the best stories out there, period; the writing is drop dead gorgeous. I’ve never seen an author pay quite so much attention to the sense of smell before, and Ociwen’s penchant for setting tone is astounding. The story has a heavy mpreg element, but even if you don’t like that, it’s definitely worth reading; mpreg has never been done better or more convincingly. Draco remains brilliantly in character throughout the entire story, even calling Harry “Potter” when they’ve been together for 20 years. Things change, except Draco-and then he does. Each of the children (yes, there are more than one, and we get to see them grow up) is unique and flawed and so realistic it will make you hurt. And magic just crackles throughout this fic, almost mirroring Draco’s emotions, muted, then crashing out and shattering glass. You must read this story. The link is to Part 26, and previous parts are linked there.
  • This is How it Goes (Four Ways) by Ociwen
Harry/Draco, rather dark. I can't even review this, I'm so speechless. It's just...I can somehow, horribly, see it happening like this, with Draco this much of a wreck and fantasizing and Harry at the end. This was fantastic and horrifying. I don't think I can read it more than once. Ociwen is a master of her craft. Read everything else she's written, too, at her Skyehawke account; you won't be sorry.
  • A Thousand Beautiful Things by geoviki
Harry/Draco. This is, like, everyone’s favorite H/D fic. And there’s a reason. Draco figures out that Harry’s under a mysterious curse and only Draco can save him. Which requires him to remain silent for a long time, and it’s one of the best-written things you will ever read. If you’re an H/D fan, you must read this. Check out the sequel, A Delicate Sound of Thunder, too.
  • Trajectories by bookshop
Harry/Draco, first half of Eighth Year fic, with a focus on portraits. That focus was great, because it had so much to do with mourning and how that might be different in the wizarding world. Some things I really enjoyed: George sabotaging the Welcoming Feast, the Sorting Hat sabotaging the Sorting, Draco standing guard over Crabbe's portrait, oh my God Dennis and how absolutely right he is, Tiny Fred, the Marauder's map and how Draco's good at fiddling with things, how much Fred absolutely loves George. Draco threatens Harry to not laugh before he kisses him, and Harry laughs anyway. I wasn't overly fond of Ginny here, but she partially redeemed herself (and I don't like her in canon anyway, so it's not a big deal). Other than that, I wanted the story to keep going; I'm desperate to know what happens after the Christmas holidays. Quote: It said a lot about how Harry's year at Hogwarts was going that the best thing that happened to him that week was getting drunk with Draco Malfoy.
  • Transformation by amalin
Harry/Draco. Let's just get this clear now: if it's by Amalin, read it. It's like reading canon, but better. I'm serious. This story is THE Sixth-Year story if Half-Blood Prince hadn't come out. It's brilliant. Amalin includes elements that fandom has forgotten, like Sirius's motorbike. Amalin's description of Harry's grief over Sirius was very poignant and believable. More things I loved: “But Hermione likes knitting!”, Tonks being indecent in the club, the fantastic image of Draco and Pansy clubbing together (I love it! I can totally see it!), the DA Galleons and how much better DA members are at spells, Draco in bad credit (poor baby!) and having to patch his robes, Harry understanding why Draco might be scared of Moody and Harry actually tutoring Draco on how to use Crucio, the whole Quidditch match, Slytherin solidarity for Snape, how Draco thinks the lightning bolt on Harry's sweater is a banana. And GOD, the sex is hot. (The Room of Requirement provides lube in one of the hottest sex scenes ever. Hahahaha. And Draco threatening to take points after for Harry being out late...oh God, it's perfect.) I love Amalin's Harry here. He's so in-character, and patient and gentle with Draco in a way that I'm really sure canon-Harry could have been. This story also manages to capture the gentle humor of canon, just better. (Quote: He said Harry’s name as if it were a dripping piece of sewage.)
  • Under the Ivy by coffeejunkii
Harry/Draco. Post-war, hurt/comfort. A short and sweet little piece that really worked for me. Harry has a magical speech impediment, Draco has physical war injuries, and they are the only ones who seem to understand each other. The author really captures the frustration of having a disconnect between one's thoughts and physical ability to speak those words. Quote: It's a simple deal-Draco walks and Potter talks.
  • The Very Magnitude of Guilt by Eleven Inches
Harry/Draco, kind of, but delightful anyway. This is a humorous piece, but it also has moments of seriousness that will get to you. Quote...because it's too awesome: "You mean to tell me Voldemort-" Percy winces slightly. "-put the very last piece of his soul in a receipt for take away?" Yeah, it's one of those kinds of fics. Draco's funny, too, and starving to death.
  • Walking the Line by silentauror
Harry/Draco. Mmm, hot plotty wartime H/D. Also perhaps my favorite fanfic ever. It starts with a very interesting characterization of Draco’s relationship with Crabbe and especially Goyle, which is something that many, if not most, fics with Draco completely forget. But helloooo, you know, he did spent quite a bit of time with them growing up. I really like that SilentAuror included that. The brilliant characterization doesn’t end there, oh no, she continues and everyone is so in-character it’s unbelievable. Such as the line from Dumbledore: "Be that as it may, they are the choices I am giving you, given the choices you've made up to this point." Doesn’t that sound just like something the old coot would say? Snape is particularly well-characterized, as well. And the plot! Brilliant letter-writing like nobody’s business! Some super-interesting magic and a wartime mystery to figure out. Wonderful fic; I’ve re-read it a million times. I also love Silent Auror's other fics, too. Check them out!
  • Wall of Glass by waterbird
Harry/Draco. Granted, I’m a sucker for Azkaban fics, but this one is particularly good, and certainly the best one I’ve read that bothers to tackle what life must be like inside. Draco’s in Azkaban and Stan Shunpike is his cellmate. Harry Potter comes to visit, and Draco’s world shifts.
  • The Way of the World by zionsstarfish
Harry/Draco. Draco takes on a job as a delivery boy because he’s broke and desperate after the war. He has to deliver a package for one Harry Potter. This fic will stick with you. I read it about five years ago and still remember almost every detail today. It’s not long, but it’s one of those fics that just rings true. As in, yeah, I could see it happening that way. I think the thing that did it for me was that Draco dyed his hair and that Harry was limping. That and how Harry diagnoses that Draco’s magic is off. Great fic. By the way, you should also read everything by Zionsstarfish, including her awesomely creepy and creative “Submerge” for the Your Worst Nightmare challenge.
  • Welcome to Wherever You Are by furiosity
Harry/Draco. Here’s the deal with this story: it has lots of things I don’t like (bitchy Ginny, hardly any Ron, ideas that seem to pop out and don’t really go anywhere). BUT. It has one of the most interesting beginning premises ever. After Sectumsempra, due to it being a unique Dark spell, Unforgivables aimed at Draco do nothing. Unforgivables aimed at others in Draco’s presence hit him. Voldemort finds out and uses Draco as his bodyguard. This…is fascinating, and I really wish Furiosity had expanded more upon that than the pretty standard, though definitely good, Harry/Draco romance and kind of heavy-handed life philosophy which follows. However, what’s there is creative and well-written enough to warrant this rec. Quote: Draco Malfoy. Valuable resource. Weapon against innocent girls. Definitely check out Furiosity's other fics, as well; they're awesome.

Draco/Harry, but it’s complicated. Dark. Author’s summary: Draco is in Azkaban. The new Azkaban, where solitary confinement means confinement with one's self. While attempting to maintain his sanity amidst psychological manipulation, Draco has recurring fantasies about dominating Harry Potter. Yes, we know I’m obsessed with Draco-in-Azkaban, but the creeping horror of this piece, that image of the “wild little boy” being tamed, it really hurts, like the twisting of a knife I didn’t even know was there. The imagery in this piece is to die for, and you really won’t know where it’s taking you until you’re there.
  • Who Shagged Harry Potter? by faithwood
Harry/Draco. I usually don't like PWPs, but this one was really very enjoyable. The mystery element was simply hilarious, and I'm glad all the Slytherin boys got their time in the spotlight. I especially love the way Faith Wood writes Draco, as cautious but hopeful but also kind of scared. Two quotes that are just hilarious: "He'll say that a bunch of evil Slytherins abducted him, got him drunk, and took advantage of him.” “Well that's probably what happened,” Draco reasoned. and Draco tried to yell his originally planned, What the fuck are you doing in my bed, Potter? accusation, and to his credit he did manage to say both fuck and Potter, but he feared this did not convey his intentions well. So funny! I also loved Draco suddenly claiming that all the lube was Blaise's; it seems so like him.
  • Who Will Guard the Door by musamihi
Eventual Harry/Draco, warning for non-con elements. Basically Draco’s life at the manor during the sixth and seventh books. I think in fandom there’s a tendency to forget that the Malfoys hosted the Dark Lord and his followers for a very, very long time, and I’m so pleased to see that not only has Musamihi not forgotten, she’s made the Manor a character on its own. Draco’s character here is phenomenal; it’s like he was lifted from canon and these are the missing scenes from the sixth and seventh books. And Musamihi doesn’t just rehash Draco’s life at school but present how it was for him at the Manor, where the insanity for him didn’t let up even when he was at home. Quote because I love the imagery: The Ministry seals pasted up on almost every door showed where the Aurors had made the final pass and enumerated all of the objects that had been removed for violating any number of dense regulations. The list on his father's study ran the length of the door and halfway down the hall in a tangle of parchment.

Harry/Draco. Wow. Just, seriously, wow. Written for the seventh-year Big Bang challenge, and you can totally tell by its phenomenal plot and quality. I love the twists and turns in this story, foreshadowed, but I still didn’t see them coming. And the way the author portrays so-called minor characters makes this story so enjoyable. Ron, Ginny-even Dudley’s character is portrayed in a fascinating way (and we get to see Aunt Marge!), and there’s also Tonks/Remus in this that is done really, really beautifully. For me, though, Draco steals the show, which is how I like it. Quote: Even Malfoy has a room: the formal dining room, so refined and well put together but used for clandestine meetings of the Order. He shares this room with Albus, whom Remus looks for every time he enters. Harry’s room is the front hall, where the light spills in from cracked and dirty glass to illuminate little squares of yellow sunlight on the ebony floors. The shadows loom ominously in the corners, and it is this juxtaposition between cheer and gloom that reminds Remus most of Harry. This is seriously an awesome fic.

Harry/Draco from Luna’s perspective. Luna collects stray cats in the form of two young men who are both damaged after the war. I loved this. Luna’s one of those characters fanfic hasn’t done justice for yet, and this fic changes that. I'm head over heels in love with the post-Azkaban Draco here, but I am absolutely floored by how perfectly written Luna was. I'm a little in love with her by the end of the story, too. And Harry was totally believable. Beautiful writing and a very original premise.

Harry/Draco, mpreg. Draco’s pregnant, and Harry’s supposed to announce this to each of their families and friends. But somehow he keeps putting it off…omg, this was so adorable! I teared up from laughter at “Baby-Proofing Your Deadly Magical Home,” lol! I love how protective Harry gets and how Draco gets emotional because of his hormones. Very cute mpreg piece.
