That was just beautiful. I hope we see more Remus/Harry from you in the future.

It was a fun pairing to write! I've found some lovely stories in this ship, but hadn't gotten around to sitting down and trying my hand at it. :)

Aww! This was so sweet. Your description of Remus's slow recovery (and continued illness) was very lifelike. In general I just loved the slow progression of this fic. I almost never read Remus/Harry, but if you keep writing it I have a feeling it might become another favorite pairing.

War, and serious injury, and grief affect everybody differently. Remus is dealing with the after-effects of all three, plus the added stress of his condition. It would take a long time for him to come back to some semblance of normality, and even then, he's not the man he was. There are scars, both inside and out. With most crossgen, but particularly Remus/Harry, I really like it when the progression is slow and the feelings develop naturally. It feels more equal, to me. I'd like to write more of this pairing in the future; it was a lot of fun. :)

I definitely agree with you about crossgen stuff. I've found that in slash crossgen fics especially, I really want the progression of the relationship to be very slow and natural. The characters have to trust and know each other enough that the age difference between them doesn't feel weird (to the characters or to the readers).

Exactly.

I think the absolute best crossgen story I've ever read is coffeejunkii's Harry/Sirius/Remus Upon Waking, closely followed by her Remus/Harry Of Ice Mice and Tickling Scarves. They've both got sex, but the way both stories build to it, by the time it arises, it feels so natural that the fact that it's crossgen doesn't even enter your mind. You know there's an age difference, but it's handled so beautifully and sensitively and realistically that it isn't a problem. That, and both those stories are domestic and lovely, like big warm hugs, and there's tea drinking and *sigh*

:D

They just hit my gentle, domestic fic kink BIG TIME in so many ways.

Aw! So sweet! I love the caring and tenderness and Harry's dogged refusal to ever give up, and ache for Remus's perpetual feelings of not being quite worth it.

Harry is very determined in that way. He latches right on and doesn't let go. In this case, it started out being about Teddy. He takes his responsibility as godfather very seriously, and when Remus starts pulling away, he's not shy about going and putting things to rights. He's not going to go and shout at Remus like he did a year ago, because he's older, now, and he's seen a lot of things that have matured him. Instead, he lets Remus know by his actions exactly what he thinks, and exactly what he expects. Remus concedes, because he knows Harry's right, and because he looks up to Harry, in a way, despite the age difference. Remus sees Harry's courage and assertiveness, and he values them above his own resilience. Remus doesn't see much value in his own existence of 'just surviving'. Surviving a second war simply because of his lycanthropic metabolism would seem to him to be a bitter, unwanted gift.

Oh. My. God! I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes because this fic is just that beautiful! Obviously you know I'm a sucker for Harry/Remus, but you've captured the reason I love this ship so perfectly. It's Remus' brokenness and Harry wanting, but never really explaining why... well, I'm jabbering now, but I think you've written the perfect Harry/Remus fic! Bittersweet and tragic, yet unbelievably hopeful at the end. Perfect!

I ♥ you so much!!!

Perfectly Done.

I have a lot of trouble with crossgen, but this one feels such an natural progression where the age is not one of the factors

With crossgen, particularly if it has anyone from Marauder era with anyone from Harry's era, I'm really picky about the stories I like because the age is such a big issue. I've found that I much prefer stories that take place in a post-War world where Harry has matured a bit and the characters have more of an equal relationship. That's really what I aimed for with this, and I think the main thing that equalises them, in addition to the passage of time is the fact that in a lot of ways, Harry is the mature, responsible one, and Remus is the one needing help, support and guidance. The physical age difference is negated somewhat by the vast difference in emotional state and maturity. Remus is still trying to run away, like a child, whereas Harry is patient, but immovably there, showing Remus his responsibility and what he expects from him.
