having had a lot of my family come over that very way, I really liked this story. Beautiful. Totally beautiful. Thank you :)

You're very welcome. I'm kind of a sucker for historical AU anyway, just because it feels ...real. If that can make any sense, but sadness is easier for me to accept for some reason if it's real. There's some sort of beauty in it, but I'm not going to rant much more about it. Very good story.

Oh, I win. This is fantastic, absolutely beautiful. I think I started squealing before I even clicked the cut, and I haven't stopped yet.

Pete can't read, or he would spy. For some reason, this detail makes me rabidly overjoyed.

Like, Pete imagines, Ireland. If you look at it sideways. He means to ask Patrick if this is so when he wakes up, since Pete hasn’t ever seen Ireland beyond the docks in Sligo. This was just wonderful. I love your style of writing, and the way you handle Patrick's death is just. Just. It's heartbreaking without being histronic, and the way Pete talks around it! (I have no helpful or rational comments to make, just "!!!" I like this so much I don't even mind Patrick being dead, I'm just sort of gaping in writerly awe).

In conclusion: I think I love you.

I am so very thrilled that you like this!

I got a kind of subversive glee out of making Pete illiterate, but I was worried that I wouldn't be able to keep it in character.

It's heartbreaking without being histrionic. Thank you! I've never written major character death before so that means a lot.

Anyway, I had tons of fun writing for you.

Much love.

Sad, but in a beautiful, real kind of way. It was sad, but it wasn't because it was, well, it was happy in the end anyways.

All of the little details relating to the history and the ship and what it's like to be on one of those ships. You could almost picture it, feel it.

I love that Pete couldn't read and Patrick was the one that died. I just loved those two parts.

I'm just kind of blanking right now. Fantastic job.

Amazing. It's like nothing I've ever read before and I think you've done a wonderful job. I love it when research is obvious in a fic, because to me it shows that writing anything is important enough to get it as right as possible.
