[Razer just flashes Jak another smirk, revving his engine in return. He puts the car into gear, holds the brake. Closes his eyes and takes a deep breath, then counts down from five.
Four.
Three.
Two.
One.
And he shoots off onto the track, overtaking Jak at least from the get-go. He eases up after the initial burst, giving the younger man an opportunity to get ahead instead, but he'll do all he can to keep him from keeping whatever lead he manages for long.
Razer's told a lot of lies since he got on the Elegante--the level of his racing abilities? Not one of them.]

[Jak releases the brake and slams his foot down on the accelerator as the light turns green, but Razer is clearly the more competent racer, at least when it comes to these vehicles. Gritting his teeth, he maneuvers to the left side of the other car, gradually picking up speed. The controls are unfamiliar, but they're solid, and lighter than anything he's driven in Spargus. There's no loss of traction from the sand, no need for heavy armor against Marauder attacks. Just speed, and Jak learns quickly, adjusting for the differences, acclimating to the new controls as he comes in close behind Razer, edging towards his bumper, and then to the side.
The turns are tight, and the roads are peppered with loose rocks from the surrounding mountains, but Jak's used to this from the shifting sands of the Wasteland, and he adjusts easily.
He's behind for now, but he's gaining control with every turn.]

[Glances in his rearview mirror leave Razer more than moderately impressed. It's clear this Jak has never used a Kras vehicle in his life, he doesn't quite seem to understand how to slide or break or turbo properly, but he's catching on fast

[The turns are where Razer picks up more of a lead, and Jak narrows his eyes, watching to see what the more experienced racer does. He watches the movement of the tires, the way the car shifts and slides, the brief blue flash of turbo

[Precursors, what Razer wouldn't give for a magnetic mine or two. He gives Jak a sideways glance, lips twisting just barely into a smirk, and then ever so slightly lets the car drift in his direction.
If Jak slows down to avoid the none-too-pleasant tap Razer is aiming for, he'll likely miss the panel and any chance of disabling Razer's vehicle; if he speeds up to hit the panel, the collision could do more damage and be more difficult to recover from.
But hey, the phrase "swap paint" doesn't come from thin air.
If he hits it won't be particularly easy on Razer either, metal is extremely pliable at these speeds, and if he doesn't hit there's still the risk that that's a trap up ahead rather than a weapon. Like Jak, Razer decides it's a risk worth taking.]

Shit!
[Jak sees the drift out of the corner of his eye. He's not fully drawn up to Razer yet, and if they were to collide right now it would clip his front end and spin him off the track. Not a pleasant thought when there's a several hundred foot drop right next to the flimsy guard rail.
He could slow down and let Razer take the lead -- and the drop. That would be the safe thing to do. But now, this is a matter of pride, and stubbornness. Jak wants that drop, and he won't let Razer get it.
Dropping his foot on the gas, he brings the car forward even more, pulling up closer to Razer's side. He'll take the hit, but he will get that drop. This is a risky move for Razer, and Jak knows he won't be the only one to come out injured.
It's a risk he's not only willing, but almost excited to take.]

[The screech when the side panels collide is like music to Razer's ears. He does his best to hold the wheel steady, nudge Jak a little further toward the edge--he doesn't want to push him off, exactly, but it wouldn't be that bad an outcome--but loses it before too long

[Gritting his teeth painfully, Jak struggles to fight the instinct to swerve as metal screams against metal. Tugging the wheel to stay on the track, he follows his racing instinct; lay off the brake, let the traction of the track keep him where he needs to go. It gives him a valuable second or two of the lead, enough time for him to grab the drop
