[Gritting his teeth painfully, Jak struggles to fight the instinct to swerve as metal screams against metal. Tugging the wheel to stay on the track, he follows his racing instinct; lay off the brake, let the traction of the track keep him where he needs to go. It gives him a valuable second or two of the lead, enough time for him to grab the drop.
Before he can use it though, Razer passes him, and Jak curses, throwing on a half-second turbo to catch up. Something to the side and behind him squeals as it's dragged along the track, gouging a nasty trench in the asphalt until it finally snaps free and careens back over the edge of the track.
Snatching a brief glance at his dashboard, Jak grins. A smoke screen. Perfect for this kind of winding, treacherous course. Unfortunately, utterly useless unless he can get ahead of Razer to disperse it.
Shifting gears, he slams his foot down on the accelerator and pulls up alongside him, very slowly but surely nudging closer to a lead.
And yet something inside him is truly happy that he's not out in front. This is a challenge, something to get excited about. Someone who is genuinely giving him a run for his money.
Whether he wins or not, the thrill of the race alone will make this worthwhile.]
