Unfortunately, while I respect the veterans themselves, I am annually frustrated by the repeated invocations of Pericles' funeral oration. I subscribe to the opinion Billy Bragg gave from the stage at the Newport Folk Festival in 1987: with the exception of the Vietnam Memorial in D.C., most war memorials are covered with "patriotic b-------t."
