I think Gojira stuck with me more because I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. I like From Mars to Sirius but there's a lot I don't like about it, and Gojira wasn't a band I considered in the top tier of metal I listened to because of it. All of a sudden, The Way of All Flesh addressed every single issue I had with FMTS, so it was very exciting to hear this band reach its full potential.
Meshuggah are already Gods of Metal in my eyes. They have forged their own path, defined their own sound, and are completely uncompromising in their approach. You take it or leave it. My expectations for obZen were sky-high and they have completely met them. There was no surprise there. Also, the first track is one I'd gladly place on a mix of "best metal songs I've ever heard". It is adrenaline that is injected aurally. Life is undeniably vibrant and exciting for those 4 minutes.
In short, I'd already had my honeymoon with Meshuggah but Gojira is still new and fresh to me.
