i don't understand

it's absolutely incomprehensible to me why a young physically healthy person who has friends, who lives in a more or less civilized country and who's got a decent future, would carefully plan and commit a suicide.. i mean, there are times when one feels like jumping of a bridge or driving into a wall at 200kmh, but all of those thoughts are ( Read more... )

Everyone is brainwashed by the propaganda: human life is sacred. Maybe it's ok the leave the party if you don't like it.

that was not my point. the point was that i don't understand how one can prefer dying to living while being healthy, having friends and having a decent future ahead of him. in your terms: i did not say that "human life is sacred", i said that i cannot understand why someone would dislike a decent party that much.

depression is strange and illogical... i know thats not a very good explination, but sometimes people feel immense pressure or sadness and there is nothing they can do to stop it other then dying (or so they feel). all the outside world, all the positives, they just dont matter then ( ... )

ugh.. if i rephrase the thing that i said to Toly - i can't understand where such a depression would come from. somehow, to me, one can only be depressed for a long time when there's lack of hope for a change to the better. so in a way i can understand it with terminally ill, invalids, old people... but with a basically healthy, well off person.. what is the source? can past experiences really cause so much fear and stress?

if there are no logical causes for depression can it be considered that the person is really ill and needs some medical help?

and yes i agree, it's good that i haven't experienced anything like that, to be able to understand it on my own...

mental health is different to physical health, and there are chemical imbalences as well as past experiences that can bring on depression. but basically, yes, they can cause that much anguish. it is considered an illness in most of the west now, but the anti-depressent drugs aren't as wonderful as they are made out to be. sometimes they make it worse, and sometimes they make it better. the normal way of treating depression is to try different drugs until one works, but that can be too late, like it was with my uncle.. there are lots of sites on the web that might help you..
