Except for the being sick part, it sounds like a really nice trip. I'm glad your family "behaved". This year I refused every invitation I possibly could and had a very nice, quiet time. I highly recommend it for next year. :)

i think they're supposed to be for closure? and they are definitely an opportunity for people to show their support of the living (and i guess love or whatever of the deceased)...for me the ones i've been to have been educational since it seems i've only known a small part of the person who passed. like brad. i barely knew him but i needed to come home from mex to go to his service to show my solidarity with the living, and i ended up learning a lot about him, and gaining respect for him too. ironically, the murder mystery i'm participating in tomorrow night takes place at a party being held in honor of a dead billionaire who requested a party instead of a somber event.

well this is why it made no sense to have a minister who had never met her do the service - so forced, with her just repeating what people told her. anyway.
send me the link to the site with how to host a murder mystery dinner!

I think they're also about honoring God if you are a believer. It's a good chance for people to recognize all that he did in your life and a good way to witness to your unsaved friends and family....a last chance to witness I guess you could say, since you should've been doing it all along.
That's what I want most out of my memorial service anyway. There is a song that I MUST have played or sang at my service... "How could I ask for anything more?" by Cindy Morgan.
I'm glad you had a good trip, I hope you took home some good memories even though you and N were sick and sounds like you went all over the place. How was Coffee Cottage and GFU btw?

Coffee Cottage was okay - the coffee I had wasn't great but it was soy and decaf, and I should just trying to make that combo work. :) The atmosphere was the same, saw some old professors inside, and they now have a separate drive thru?!?
GFU was feeling crowded - the new buildings are so institutional and not the charming feeling I associate with the campus. I did schmooze with the librarians and a professor in the library. They're building a new dorm in the U-Hall parking lot and Friendsview has doubled in front of itself, making even that part of campus seem crowded. At the same time, this means good things, I think - growth is always a positive side when you're looking at making a college run financially. We also went inside Ross and knew hardly anyone!
