...And A Day

Feb 14, 2010 20:40

[Dated February 12th]They'd never had an official 'date' to meet at the waterfall in the mornings, after IPD patrol. 'Official' wasn't a great word for them, and hell, it wasn't the first time one of them hadn't kept it. He, himself, could be pretty fickle about it ( Read more... )

Very few people I knew knocked so unrelentingly for no reason whatsoever. I got up with concern written on my face, leaving William to sleep in the middle of my bed while I went to answer the door.

"Mitchell," I said when I saw him, then opened the door wider. "Has something happened?"

From the look on his face I feared that the time had finally come that Daniel was gone.

Two important things immediately registered when Vala opened the door. The first being that she, clearly, was still alive and well on the island. The second was that this had been a really stupid plan.

The mental scolding for his requisite rashness was somewhat overwhelmed in the ridiculous rush of relief that Vala was still there.

"Vala..." He sighed, and shook his head. Rashness was one thing. He didn't need to make an ass out of himself by worrying Vala any more than he already had. "Ah, no...it's just...Morgan. She's gone." He wasn't certain how close the two had ever gotten, but Vala probably would have wanted to know. Just, not necessarily when she was trying to sleep. "M'Sorry. I shouldn't have gone and woken you over it."

"Don't be ridiculous. William's asleep. I was not," I told him, ushering him inside.

"Morgan's gone? Like Sheppard?"

At least he hadn't woken William. He'd have felt terrible for that. But his plan-what little there was of it-ended with finding Vala. The rest was...barely an outline. So, he had little cause to object to being ushered anywhere. Not that the damn sling would have given him much opportunity to, anyway.

At her question, he gave a slim nod. Like Sheppard. Like Carolyn, and Reese, and Austin, and just about everyone else he'd called 'friend' on the island. "Yeah. Gone. Back to..." He bit his lip, and shook his head. It didn't necessarily matter how he knew it. Just that he did.
