Rewatch: Echoes

Teyla is shocked when she sees the ghostly image of a woman in the corridors of Atlantis. The woman is an Ancient in appearance but, initially at least, no one else can see her. Others begin to have their own visions however. Dr. McKay is enjoying himself watching a whale-like creature that is swimming just off the city. He's certain that it's the ( Read more... )

[Sorry I wasn't here last night, but I face-planted in bed two minutes before the post went up.]

Nice (and scary) beginning recapping what happened to Rodney trapped in the 'jumper underwater in Grace Under Pressure as the "Previously on" narrated by Rachel L.

Then we're back in the air in present time, as John is flying an excited Radek (dressed in civvies, yay) and a very grumpy Ronon back from a location where they should never have been left together, as Radek's tests scared away his hunting prey. Poor Ronon. He's really put out.

Uh-oh. Where's Atlantis? It's not on their viewscreen. When Radek instructs John to adjust his course heading, it's where it should be, in the centre of their viewscreen. Radek says "Thank God" in Czech.

Then John suggests that Ronon might want to avail himself of Teyla's offer of meditation lessons. Hee! That's rich coming from Col. Bored-of-Six-Neverending-Months-of-Meditation in Epiphany. Ronon's snippy reply tells us he's not too keen on the idea, lol ( ... )

Rodney's out on a smallish balcony with a pair of binoculars. He doesn't notice the whine of the doors whooshing open or John approaching until he removes the binoculars from his eyes. Then he wants to know how long John's been there. The faker says "an hour or so" until Rodney catches on. This is delightful as we see how the two men used to interact so much during the first season. These two have a marvellous repertoire of playful facial expressions that make Rodney look especially young ( ... )

John wanders into Rodney's lab. Rodney's excited about monitoring Sam. John finds that name "creepy". Tell us WHY, John. Hmmm? Then John asks if Rodney fed him? ::snickers:: Right, and that's why Sam followed Rodney home. When Rodney widens the field, we see a much bigger whale, most likely Sam's mama, who's the size of a football field or, as Rodney tells us, "a Canadian football field" which is bigger! John suggests they take a closer look and Rodney rushes off after him. Once again, wonderful echo of how carefree and inquisitive they were in the first season ( ... )

Meanwhile, back on stairs I'm now recognizing, Teyla reaches a corridor. There's a woman approaching. Besides the high-pitched gibberish, Teyla also hears a metallic whine, covers her ears; then sees the scientists as additional apparitions and finally the burned man exiting the transporter. Next thing, she's on the floor, but Ronon's there to help her to the infirmary ( ... )

Liz joins John and Rodney in the biolab. More technobabble = they've been seeing reruns from the whales' genetic memory. Oh, Rodney and his lyrics to the Macarena bit. So, what's the warning about? Can't be about the Wraith. Luckily, Rodney turns on the acoustic language filter. He fiddles around with it until Liz can actually make out some Ancient words ( ... )
