INVULNERABLE by tridget

INT. ATLANTIS CORRIDOR - DAY. Sheppard, Teyla and Ford are walking with McKay. He is babbling excitedly. A green gadget glows on his chest.
McKAY…So with gene therapy and this personal shield, I’m invincible! I’m like every superhero there ever was all rolled into one!
FORDMaybe you should try leaping our tall spires in a single bound.
TEYLAI am unfamiliar with ‘superheroes,’ but that seems…unwise.
SHEPPARDI’ve got a better idea.
Sheppard veers off, leading the team into the firing range.
McKAYW-weapons. This is a better idea?
TEYLAIs there not a safer way to determine the strength of the device? Perhaps the records of the Ancestors-
McKAYSafer would be good. We could study the research and-
SHEPPARD(grinning)This’ll be faster.
FORDAnd a lot more fun.
Ford turns toward Sheppard.
FORDI’m real steady with a nine mil, sir.

SHEPPARDI’ll keep that in mind. But if anyone’s going to shoot a member of our expedition, it’ll be me.
Realizing what he has just said, Sheppard’s playful attitude disappears abruptly. Ford looks away awkwardly.
McKAYWh-where do you plan on shooting me?
SHEPPARD(forcing a smile)Here in the firing range.
McKAYVery amusing.
SHEPPARD(recovering his lighter mood)I thought it was pretty good.
McKAYJust…get on with it.
SHEPPARD I’m gonna aim for your leg. Hold still.
Sheppard unholsters his sidearm.
McKAYYou’d better be accurate.
McKay clasps his hands protectively in front of his nether regions.
TEYLAWe really should not-
Sheppard aims and fires. The bullet bounces off the shield harmlessly. McKay screams and drops to the floor, trying to clutch at his leg. The others crouch around him.
FORDDamn.

TEYLAWe must summon the medical staff.
SHEPPARDDid that hurt?
McKAY(catching his breath)Uh…no…not really. B-but I thought it might.
FORDYou screamed because you thought it was going to hurt?
McKAYActually, it was more of a manly holler than a scream.
TEYLAI am certain that it was a frightening experience.
McKAY(standing up)Yes. But it’s proof…I’m invulnerable! I’m Doctor Rodney McKay, Superhero.
SHEPPARDBe sure to have the quartermaster fit you for tights and a cape.
FORDI’ve got another idea. Instead of tall spires, you could try a balcony.
SHEPPARD(looking at McKay) There’s one by the Control Room. There’d be a lot of people around…
McKAYPerfect!
TEYLAI believe that more caution-
Sheppard and McKay are not listening as they gleefully take off toward the balcony.
