I was so excited when I saw this challence announced, and this is exactly why. You've spun my love of John and Rodney together with my love of fairy tales together into a lovely yarn. I adored John-as-Cinderella, and the fact that he was so willing to give himself in marriage to a man he didn't know, just for a chance at flight, was sad in a way that felt true. I enjoyed all the datails of John's house; they painted a vivid picture of the crowded house and squabbling inhabitants. And Rodney's speech when he came to John's room was wonderful.

Thanks for sharing this!

Thank you so much! I'm so glad that Cinderella!John works for you. His willingness to marry a stranger in order to fly felt -- well, fairy-tale-angst-appropriate, and also weirdly believable for me, and of course I knew he was going to get his happy ending. :-)

Oh, that was so, so delightful. John's step-mother as a Wraith cracked me up, and the image of a young John in tattered clothes dreaming about flying was just so sweet and sad. Using an Ancient device for the glass slipper was really quite clever, and the two of them together were just precious. So much fun. :)

Hee! I'm so glad somebody noticed the Wraith reference. I'm kind of in love with this John now, with his tattered clothes and flying dreams...

Thank you!
