This is really excellent. My heart twisted up a couple of times early on, and I almost quit, it seemed so dark. The clues that saved John were what kept me going too. And then Yay! Happy ending!

Oh, I really like this! It was confusing at first - in a good, intriguing way - and then when it became clear what was happening, very chilling (which is the wrong word to use, given the heat/fire theme of the story, but I can't think of another one ;-) Poor, poor Sheppard. But since despite all this horror, he didn't give in, and he'll get over it, and won't be broken.

Wonderful! Poor Sheppard. I really liked the way the story built up until we knew what was going on. It made for very effective story telling. Well done! :)
