Planning for Round 4

Mar 10, 2010 23:18

IMPORTANT~1/3 of participants dropped out during the course of the last round (a few folks had unforeseen computer issues and I'm not counting them). We currently have 15 icon makers who have told us in the feedback poll that they're definitely interested in another round. It suggests waning interest. Before we spend time assembling the next round ( Read more... )

No apologies necessary. Our feelings haven't been hurt or anything. It's just that coming up with the themes and HQ caps is a time-intensive process. Not to mention, it's a commitment to be at home, in front of the computer, 2 nights a week for several months ( ... )

*points at poll* Seems like there'd be a fourth round. ;)

Oh and *waves* for cap making/finding, would love to help. :)

Indeed, we shall. There is more than enough interest in another round for us to commit to it. I'm very excited. :)

Thank you for volunteering! You volunteered a couple of hours after someone else. Would you be willing to be a back-up if we need some additional help?

No, they wouldn't need to be created but neither is MGM good for every cap. Promos are often "stills" as opposed to caps which freeze the action; the latter often have more emotion and sometimes have more artistic angles than pics meant to be used promotionally ( ... )

You're correct; it wouldn't begin right NOW. We have at least a month's worth of work to do to set up the next round. Probably more like two months. beeej always competes in lots of contests and I've joined in more than I've ever done. My fandom time will be split amongst several pursuits in the near future.

I'm sorry that you find it intimidating. Difficult I hope for (I want everyone to achieve amazing icons) but I hate to think anyone is scared off. Would it be helpful to have a guide of sorts? We've pondered writing one but it's a question of where we spend our time.

Real life always trumps playing on the internet. Maybe the problem is the time of year that we're running. It could be that we get a lot of drop outs by students when there are finals. It's good ot have data points to work from.

I'm glad that you're happy here. :) You're right that it's hard to compare icons made from wildly different caps. I was willing to make it harder on our voters to make it a better learning experience for the makers. I can't imagine having only one cap as some LIMS do because sometimes I just don't "see" a good icon in a cap.

And this is a perfectly good place to leave feedback. :) Not only is there not an official comment post but I specifically asked for feedback here so it's a good place to comment. :)

Awwww....*hugs you.* Thank you for your generous and kind words. The themes are the result of four of us sitting around and brainstorming. We have lots of other good ideas stored up. Also? We steal adopt good ideas from other communities.

I've always been worried about dropping interest given that SG-1 is off the air. Until we had a full third of the field disqualified in the last round, though, I thought we'd been lucky to avoid that fate. However, we've had a lot of positive response up there *points to poll* so I feel more confident that we'll have a healthy Round 4.

Thank you for volunteering. I'll be contacting you via private message. :)
