Actually, they kinda made Cyclops into roadkill. I mean, the guy isn't even granted the dignity of dying on screen.

As for Jean Grey, the reason I never liked her is because apparently she had this huge wide story arc as the only piece of characterization, which didn't come through at all in the TV animated series (which was how I was introduced to X-men, so sue me). Trying to do character arcs when your plot elements are episodic usually doesn't work all that well.
